I've been having issues with my Wizard not cutting all the way through 4 ply but I've been able to make it work. However, I'm trying to cut an 8-ply and I've cranked it up as far as 23 and it STILL won't cut through, not even close. I've changed the blade, restarted everything....what am I doing wrong?

This machine has eaten SO MANY MATS on me that it's ridiculous and I'm not paying $150 or whatever it is to call them.
 
Just some kind of basic/obvious things to check first, just in case: (before having to call and pay for support)
  • Has the blade hooder block been replaced lately, or could it be worn/time?
  • Blade is ok?
  • Air pressure is ok?
  • Tank drained recently, air line not pinched under unit, regulator clean, PSI correct?
  • Dial is turned to correct depth for that mat type?
  • Lubricated recently?
  • Air exhaust hose in head isnt clogged or pinched?
  • Re-seated the cable lately and power cycled the controller/driver pack?
  • Head assembly seems to be solid and not loose or wiggling?
  • Have a flaw board under the mat being cut?

Most of these, yes. I will go through the list and double check the rest. I don't know how to lubricate it or where?

I am not sure where to lubricate on a 9000. I went from an 8000 to a valiani Ultra BC, so I don't have personal experience with the 9000 model. Someone else will be able to provide that answer.
 
We are running a Z1...The upgraded version of the 9000.
There is no indicated lubrication of this machine.
We set our machine to 24 for 8 PLY, and never go higher than 26 (as that broke the machine previously).
Are you using the 45 degree + blades? Those work best on 8 PLY.
 
The numbers on the dial for blade depth are relative. The dial itself is adjustable.
The best way to calibrate the depth to match the suggested depths is to start with a bunch of small 4-ply pieces and cut starting with the machine set on something less than 10, and continue increasing depth until you get a clean fallout. Stop cutting, loosen the set screw on the side of the dial, and turn the dial to indicate 10, and tighten the set screw.
That's what a rep from Wizard did to my 8000 when I paid a bit extra to have a professional tune-up on the machine.
Regular mat now cuts at 10.5 and 8-ply cuts at 21.
 
I ended up using the yellow cartridge even though the machine kept prompting me to use the black one. I still had to go 19 in depth. I got a lemon when I bought this machine and it's been nothing but a nightmare since. I could've bough a Valiani for the cost of mats this thing has eaten over the years.
