Windows 10 retirement, New Windows 11 soon

They took the check app down a few days ago, and are re doing it to include more processors.

It has been announced that there will no longer be a Blue Screen of Death in W11

Yippy ki F*** yeah? Not so fast. There will still be a BSOD, except it will be black. Huh? Such Progress.

What's next, the Red Screen of Death in W12? Oh wait, that exists in W10.

....and I just upgraded my next-to-last computer to Win 10 this past weekend. hahaha Still have one on Win98 and not going to/can't upgrade it due to legacy software and firmware.

I still have several Win98SE machines going at my IT job, for the same reason. (not on the internet, just on an isolated network for them to talk with the server)

Win98SE and Win10 were both good ones. Windows 11 seems like its just Windows 10 with some lipstick, and not all that different.

Well they made the announcement today. Windows 11 will be a FREE upgrade for Windows 10 users.

It has a new start button and layout, a lot of improvements, and will even run ANROID APPS.
I suppose it will have many more forced updates to screw my laptop up a few more times?
On several ocassions the damn thing was running perfectly and a forced update would screw it up! It would often change all my selected screen brightness, battery settings and power settings. Some of which cannot be permanently changed back.

The first beta was released yesterday, beyond the initial testing alpha versions. It looks pretty good.

A major reason not to upgrade to W11.

Want to Change the Default Browser in Windows 11? Good Luck! https://www.pcmag.com/news/want-to-change-the-default-browser-in-windows-11-good-luck

Microsoft has decided to ditch the ability to simply switch out one browser for another in the Default apps window in Windows 11. Instead, you're going to have to change every file type associated with the web to open with your browser of choice. That means .html, .svg, .pdf, .ftp, and the list goes on.

No way am I going to change all the default apps. I said in the comments "Class Action Lawsuit here it comes"

Realistically, 99% of consumers access html and pdf files only. And no doubt someone has already created a script to change 99% of potential file types to the browser of your choice.

BUT it is very interesting that they are trying this again, after the old IE fiasco that they ended up losing.

I'm sure they'll work all that out by release day, to make it easier.

Maybe that was true in days of yesteryear but not today. Just using my site as an example, there isn't a single html or pdf page; just a couple of pdf links. Php, JS, Java, asp and a zillion others all replace html. Why? html is static. The web is dynamic and pages are created dynamically using a multitude of scripting languages. Try creating an Amazon with static pages where each page has to be crafted individually by hand. We would still be back in the stone ages (web wise) if all we had was html. The end result of all the dynamic scripting is most times an html page but the browser accessing the page that created it is accessing something other than html.

Nah, but it does currently have limits on which processors can be used, and other certain hardware requirements. My 5 year old computers are failing the requirements, but our 3 year old CMC computer will upgrade just fine. The old machines I normally use to beta test new versions of Windows don't qualify.
