Location
CT, not far from the LI Sound
Roads were empty (except the ones leading to the mauls...
) which I avoid anyway, and it is rainy and foggy, all the snow is gone, I was the only person driving, it seemed.

But we have quite a few orders to be finished this week.

Also, I had time to cut a BIG "Art Sale" on the Wizard for the window (Thanks Steph for the ideas!)

And, a customer just called to see if we're open.

The shops I know in the area are not open on Monday.

Paul,

We've made being closed on the 26th a tradition, giving our staff a full 2 days off before our "4 Day After Christmas Sale" begins on the 27th. Boxing Day is a day to remember those that serve us.....so it makes sense to be closed today.

We had a partial staff in the shop on the 24th from 10am to 2pm. Looking ahead at next year, where Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday and Christmas on a Monday: I think we'll close for a full three days - 24th-25th-26th. Our staff will love it! Plenty of time for family, friends and football! :D

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

John

I'm so confused. There is ONE building where people commonly flock to like the Holy Land and we as retailers view these places as negitive?

Ohh and I'm open from 8a.m.-10p.m. today.

We are open today and there were customers waiting at the door when I got here.

I am surprised that 2 of our moulding distributers are close until Jan 9th. Oh well, I just won't show their corner samples until then.

I find it strange too, lots of my suppliers are closed through January 2.

And one of them, who shall remain anonymous, sent me (on their last open day) a 40 x 60 duplex silk mat, with 22 kt gold bevel. But the bevel is so steep, it is almost invisible!

I have to wait till 1/3/2006 to have them redo it...

Open regular hours today. No customers yet after two hours though. Oh well....after being closed yesterday I had to retrain myself on how to run the place. I've got six days to make up for a sloooow year!

Although I normally try to close on this date, I had a customer who needed to come in today. So we are open from 12-4. Her daughter was in town and leaving today and they were giving her a print and the framing for Christmas... so definitely worth my while!! Had another customer come in within 2 minutes of their arrival. But it has been quiet since. We will stay til 4.... it's quiet and I can get some "downtime" before the race continues!

Working out of my house, I'm never closed. BUMMER! My schedual sometimes drives my wife crazy but hey we really are having fun and after working for myself for 30 years I am so onary I don't think I could ever work for someone else.

When the Home Store opens in the begining of Feb. I won't have to be there every day. Their empoyees will sell my ready made frames, mats, glass etc. and take orders for custom work which I do here at the shop at our house. And I will deliver once or twice a week.

But it is a hassel today as several people have called wanting information or to order things and with the post office closed and many of my suppliers closed I can't get information and other things done.

Bummer I just ran out of black ink for my busines printer. I am also out of black ink for my photo printer (Epson 2200). And I am not about to print invoices on my Epson 7600. I guess I need to drive 3 hours round trip to go to staples as I need ink bad.

---->Hey supper and a movie with my wife. Maybe it's good I ran out of ink.

Bye

It has been very very quiet here today, But it's been nice. I have gotten to clean up and straightened up the display floor. It's amazing to me how many people can't put something back the way they found it. It's upside dow, backwards or nowhere near where it started from....Oh well...Gotta love the customers.

Jay, I saw it as a bad place when I wrote out my rent check this month...then again my sales the next day covered that check.

i don't understand either.

Hey Tim and Jay-There are detractors a'many. I don't know why either

Reminds of the Yogi Berra quip when asked if he frequented a popular place-"Nah, nobody goes there; it's always too crowded"

Given the choice between too many customers and not enough, you know which way I go. The question comes down to if what you pay is worth what you get. I think the stronger argument ought to be not if you are paying too much (not good) or are you paying (and getting) too little

We had a nice day yesterday, too

We had a good day as well. Funny how some think that the season is over once Christmas is past. We had more customers in the store than we probably did on the 23rd. Didn't have the sales to match but had a lot of exposure to people who had not been in our store before and many commented on how they liked what they saw.

That means a lot to me since I think our store is pretty bare right now and needs more new product.

Now Jay, et al, who was bad mouthing your beloved malls??

I called them "mauls" because somebody mentioned that's what they call them in the UK and I thought it was funny; but I guesss the humor is lost on some people.

I have nothing against malls, just the traffic.

They do nothing for my business, they're great for your business, good for ya.

If I offended your beloved malls, than please forgive me.

C'mon Paul-You started it. A lot of framers dislike malls. Why? I'm guessing it's because mall operators do about 3-4 times the biz that the average independent does

Knock off the sarcasm with the "beloved" remarks and "avoid" comments and no one will need to be offended

Can you imagine of some of us mall operators started making "humorous" remarks about strip centers that most framers occupy?

Did you know that, according to Paco Underhill, over 90% of the buying public went to a mall last year?

Some of us just want to be where the action is

Personally, I don't care where you set up shop, but why in the world would you be so anxious to buck the trend in shopping patterns

Oh, and by the way, this was all humorous in case you didn't get it
