We refurbished an old VN2+1 for fun and to have as a spare. Everything works well except the v-nails are not inserting 'evenly' - one side of the nail consistently protrudes about .5 - 1 mm above the plane of the back of the frame. Does anyone have any solutions/recommendations? Thanks!

Are you using just one size v-nail or is it doing this on other sizes also?
If you are only using one size possibly that v-nail block is worn and is moving so it's not sitting flush. Just a guess...

Yeah, we've only been using one size block/nail for testing so, good idea!

I cushion/support the front of the moulding and smack the v-nail with a hammer.
I've never had good results using that method. On the rare occasions that the vnail is proud of the back, using a hammer even with the best padding plays havoc sometimes with the joint throwing it out of wack. I prefer my handy dandy Milwaukee M12 rotary tool with a stone grinding wheel. Just grind it flat being careful not to grind off any of the wood.
