Hi Everyone,
I know there are loads of threads on this but I have some questions about using particular materials and am concerned about bowing and off-gassing.
I’m planning on mounting 7mm H ceramic tiles (no grout) to an 8mm marine ply, backing panel using E6000, then framing under AR70 glass in a 27mm deep moulding. Customer wants a window mat cut with a 45mm boarder which I will have to glue to the ply backing (thoughts on best adheasive for this?)
Tile area is 740 x 445mm, backing panel 830 x 534mm. Boxed tiles were 3.9kg, so estimating finished piece around 3–4kg. It will hang from Wall Buddies attached to the backing, not the frame.
I’m considering 8mm marine ply, sealed front/back/edges with a water-based polyurethane before adhesion. Has anyone used 8–9mm ply at this size/weight long term without bowing? The gold frames my customer likes are around 27mm H and I need to allow for a spacer so there's not much depth to play with.
Any concerns about adhesive or sealer off-gassing behind AR glass once fully cured? The glued down matboard lifting off the ply backing is also a bit of a worry.
If needed, I can move to a deeper moulding — was just hoping I could keep with their frame preference.
