Is the best thing to use for marking lines on the back of black core matboard a white colored pencil? Any other suggestions or ideas? Thanks!

When the infrequent need arises, I use white chalk.

If applied lightly, it dusts off fairly easily.

Chalk pencils (which can be sharpened just like regular pencils) are available wherever quilting supplies are sold. They work very nicely for numbering black core boards for filing.

There are silver pencils called "quilting pencils" sold as a quilting supply. The lines are even easier to see than white ones, and easy to erase.

For labeling black core boards, I use the white labels that are computer generated when I place an order.

For mat-cutting guidelines (we don't need no stinkin' production stops!) I sometimes use yellow, or white pencil, but I usually find that regular pencil is pretty easy to see.
