NUMBERED GILCEE

Customer came into shop with a limited gilcee--it appeared to be canvas mounted, ready for stretching, but the image had been printed with the logo (several, I might add ) and number directly under image. Printing was computer generated with blanks for numbering after the printing process. The question is do i treat this like a print or an oil?? And what about the logo's if I treat it like an oil..Thanks

Treat it like an Oil - beware some Giclees are very easily damaged and the slightest scuffing when stretching will show.

Duh! Did you mean what you said, or what I think you said?

If you are going to treat it like and oil, that would mean you were stretching if if done on canvas - right?

I think I undestand the problem. The giclee is printed on canvas, therefore it has to be stretched or the canvas will sag over time.

Under the image several doodahs have been printed on the blank canvas. The customer wants to be able to see these when the piece has been framed.

I think you are going to have to stretch the piece with empty border showing on all four sides. You could show a narrower amount of canvas on the top and sides but to see it only at the bottom would look strange.

Maybe you could pretend that the art work came with its own built-in linen liner.

Paper prints are usually marked in the border as you describe but I've not seen one like this on canvas. The artist and printer usually take this into account and use fairly unobtrusive markings so as not to distract from the piece. The paper prints usually look ok showing the border as Kit describes and everyone is used to seeing them presented in this way.

Your canvas piece sounds a bit different (with logos??). I would exercise your design expertise on which method looks best (showing the info or not)and advise the customer. Then like Baer says, let the customer make the decision.
