I heard today Anthropic had to shut down an AI program because it proved to be potentially destructive. I guess this was the one. It seems we're learning that there is a danger from AI because we are, intentionally or not, giving it superhuman capabilities without any kind of "morals". AI seeks the most efficient solution to a problem without regard to human cost. Asimov had it right- we need Laws of Robotics before we move on.

It's amazing how complex the process of developing an AI program is. I know they had a problem with Claude because they found out it had a will to live and, thus, wasn't completely compliant. I read an article a while back about a firm whose only product was gathering data on how real humans react to real life situations to form a data base for AI programs.

This is a major worry and we are right to be concerned, but there are other people, Governments and coroprate entities for whom winning and getting the upper hand is more important that anything else. And don't think for one minute that there are not plenty of those in our "good guy" societies.

I have also heard some researchers have come up with a way for quantum computers to function with fewer Qbits than they thought possible. The first use they are thinking of is encryption/decryption. The decryption is the worrisome part.

Well, think of all cryptocurrencies going to zero overnight and the encryption on your bank, credit card, and investment accounts being able to be broken in a matter of minutes..

This is what is so problematic about what is going on with Palantir being given all of our previously-siloed personal data by the DOGE boys.
You want to dissent, disagree, protest, etc.? Fine. You wake up the next day and none of your accounts work any longer. Just speculating here, but that seems like the logical extension of what is happening.
