Hi
I am new to framing I have a Hansen model 8101-L mitre chopper I find the blade some times sticks to the moulding when the blades have finished there cut and returning to the starting position. Does anyone have any tips to stop this? It does not seem to happen all the time.

Many Thanks

Nick

Are your blades perfectly sharp? If they aren't they will tend to crush the wood slightly before they start to cut. When the blade comes back up, the wood that was crushed will spring back and bind on the blade.

I recently bought a used Morso and was having the same problem. At one point I tried to cut a liner moulding made of a very soft wood but with a fairly tough covering. The cuts were really messy. While experimenting with it, I noticed that the surface was crushing as the blades entered it. I then replaced the blades with a freshly sharpened set. That moulding then cut perfectly cleanly and the other mouldings that were lifing as the blade came back up weren't doing that any more.

I will see how sharp the blades are as I have just purchased the mitre cutter second hand. I was going to wait untill I got a bit more used to it before I pull it apart and get the blades sharpened.

Many Thanks

Nick

Ditto. Even with fresh, correctly sharpened knives.
