Looks like it is part #85, Driver Cylinder. Page 22 of the manual you posted.
That would appear to be part 85 (Drive Cylinder) on the second page of the PDF.
The main cylinder in ours was getting stuck and the result was an air leak and slow return. I was able to take it apart and wipe it down, reassemble it, and she has been fine since. It's in an old discussions in this section, somewhere, but that was my solution.
Some foreign material got into the oil, or we used the wrong kind, at some point. It was causing friction on the main piston, so it wasn't returning to the resting position.

I am having a similar issue with mine too. What was the remedy?
In many cases, lubricating the compressed air through the input port on the machine will solve sticking problems.
It wasn't the control valve. I replaced 2 main vertical cylinder gaskets, it's much better now thanks to fletcher

For me, I disconnected the air and then dropped the main cylinder from the bottom (two bolts). I wiped it down and reassembled. Good as new.
There was some stickiness that had accumulated on the main piston, causing a delay when it was returning to the home position.

I’m still having an issue with my VN42. It’s hissing from one of the pneumatic valves (control valve #19) and the and push button lever (which drives the nail) is very difficult to move. It behaves as if it’s stuck. I’ve lubricated the air lines to see if it would help and nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Have you tried lubricating the button?
Does it still have the same friction when the unit is disconnected from the air source?

As soon as the air source is released the handle moves properly. The button doesn’t stick - it’s moving the handle forwards and back to place the nail.
I've replaced 2 control valves within a month or so.
You can order control valve form fletcher. They are fairly easy to replace. each port is numbered on the old one and the new one.
This was helpful to me, sent by Vince at fletcher
1 to 1 (red supply line)
2 to 2 (blue tubing)
3 to 3 (blue plastic muffler)
4 to 4 (blue tubing)
5 to 5 (blue plastic muffler)
14 to P (depending on which valve its either red, white or blue)
Remove the tubing ONE AT A TIME from the old and insert into the new control valve.
I changed a control valve and a foot pedal valve before, when troubleshooting ours. Fletcher was very helpful, and is where we sourced the parts.

It would be good to give them a call, IMO, for some direction and maybe a new valve.
