Resolved LOGAN Platinum Edge Mat Cutter ❓ ISSUE

Hi everyone,

We recently received a Logan Platinum Edge mat cutter and started testing it.

Overall it seems well built, but one thing concerns us: the cutting head has noticeable left-to-right play. The movement is roughly about 1 mm each direction.

When all guides and stops are set perfectly, that small wiggle can shift the blade path slightly, which affects precision — especially on bevel cuts. Ideally the head should feel firmly guided with no lateral movement while pulling the cut.

Is this normal for a new Logan cutter?

Does it improve with use, or is there an adjustment, tightening method, or maintenance step we might be missing?

I will attach short video to illustrate the issue.

Any advice from experienced Logan users would be appreciated.

Thank you Jim for providing the manual.

We have looked at page 9, but we are not sure which screws exactly we have to adjust to fix the issue.

The ones we tried don't respond to the issue.

I took some photos, see if you or anyone else can point out on the photos which screws we should adjust.

There are 3 holes in the block with recessed Allen screws in them. One on the top, one on the square cut side in front of the handle and the other behind that same handle under the blade depth-of-cut adjustment screw (black knurled finger knob). The two on the side are somewhat obscure as the blade has to be removed to access the front one, and the cutter head must be rotated forward to access the other.

This worked by adjusting these two screws, #1 and #2, as illustrated in the image attached. It made it much, much better.

NOTE: Although for others who might experience the same issue, knowing that you have to adjust the screws in small increments to closely match the intensity of both for the best smooth performance and accuracy is of benefit.

The way we did it is by unscrewing both screws #1 and #2

Then move in small increments;

- First tighten screw #1 a bit, then do the same on screw #2

- Repeat, back to screw #1, tighten a bit, move to screw #2 and do the same

- Repeat the same steps until the issue is gone.

Initially, we thought, "You just tighten the screws, and that's it."

This type of adjustment reminded me of tuning the guitar.

The screw #3, though, the 5/64” hex wrench doesn't work for some reason, or the shorter side of the hex wrench cannot reach the screw.

We tried the longer side of the 5/64” hex wrench, but it is differently built than the shorter side, and it is kind of stuck when you place it in, so it didn't really work.

Obviously, we didn't want to push hard to break something since we are already familiar with the intensity of #1 and #2 screws, plus the customer support mentioned in Logan's literature that the screws should not be tightened too much.

We might have to purchase a separate, longer 5/64” hex wrench just for this #3 screw location.
