Oh how I miss the snow right now. This heat is not for me. I live in the Northeast because it's supposed to be cool here.

Again I say, Let it SNOW!

It always seems easier to get warm than it does to get cool.

One more time... LET IT SNOW!

I'm with you!

Mike

Me too, we had over a week with over 100 degree temps. It finally cooled down but still no moisture in our part of the state. Going from 108 to 68 in a matter of hours is quite a welcome but sudden change.

Wait until I get my corn up! I'm up to my eyeballs in Silver Queen corn today.

Man, won't it taste good on one of those snowy days

New Hampshire is not supposed to get this hot! (It's 102° at noon)

I had to dump some cartons this morning about 9 a.m. and it was like walking into a furnace once I stepped out the back door.

We don’t have A/C at home and the fans just aren’t cutting it. The dog lays in front of it anyway, so we are soaking the sheets and my wife and I are snarling at each other a lot.

It doesn’t help to take showers either; you just can’t get dry.

Man, I feel for you guys down South who get this a lot more than we do.

I live in the south, but in the mountains of east Tennessee, so it really doesn't get this hot very often. I hate it! I want snow and lots of it.

People are more apt to come out in a snow storm then in a heat wave! I do better business in the winter then I do in the summer.

Maybe evening hours in the summer would make people come out more. (see other thread)

My sympathy to those of you that are suffering from the heat without the benefit of air conditioning.

Without it I'm fairly certain we'd have a much smaller population down here.

This is some very odd weather in my opinion. Here on the Panhandle of Florida we are over 10&#186 cooler than many other parts of the country and so far North of here that it just doesn't make any sense!! We haven't had temps over 96&#186 yet this summer and we are very consistent with our highs (low to mid 90's) and lows (mid to high 70's)every day. The only thing that we haven't had that we usually have this time of the year is afternoon showers and they are finally beginning to show up. Yesterday we had a frog strangler and this afternoon they are predicting more of the same.

The nice thing about living here is the winter temps run average in the high 40's to low 50's for low temps and mid to high 60's to low 70's for highs during the day. Last winter I wore long pants less than a month out of the entire winter. It's mostly T-shirts and shorts all year long and, believe me, I have paid my dues with the snow shovelling scene so I am quite happy with my present situation thank you very much.

It's hard to believe that North and South Dakota and Montana have already had heat indexes well into the hundreds and teens!! That much heat just can't be healthy for anyone!

On the brighter side, there is always an end to all of this come Sept. or Oct.

It was 102 today and now its pouring, thundering, very windy, pitch dark, and they're calling for HAIL. It's not exactly SNOW, but close enough!

What odd weather lately

Mike

Yesterday morning I went to the grocery store and when I came back outside...my glasses fogged up. Just like in the winter when you come in the warm house from out in the cold. Only this time I went from the cool store to the hot outside.

How did people survive in Texas and Arizona etc. back before there was A/C in homes or cars?

Mine says, "WE HAVE HOT ART AND COOL A/C"

Didn't help today though.

Mike, That storm was unbeleivable. It came up the street at our shop like a freight train. and in 10 mins it was over. Cooled down a little. It is now only 90. Down from the 99 on the bank clock across the street from me.

SNOW! Come on SNOW!

Sorry...but no matter how hot it gets and will never wish for snow. Come home, grab an ice cold beer, my swimsuit and start tossing the boys around in the pool. I love everything about this time of year. I love working out in the yard, till the sweat is dripping off me and I get to enjoy the fruits of my labor all summer long.

Winter serves its purpose, but lets not rush it. Though what I was surprised to hear and pleased that they did, NYRA closed down racing today because of the heat. I have never remembered ever heatring about the track shutting down. Glad they cared about the health of the horses. Pretty huge deal here, for them to shut down even for 1 day out of a six week meet.

Little cooler after a very brief thunderstorm....hope summer lasts, I'll be revving up the snowblower soon enough.

I read all your post and wishes with some reservation. Down here it can get fairly warm but not nearly as Hot as when Marie and i decided to visit Vegas recntly. In the 4 days 5 nights we were there the colleat it got was 102 . Once it was 112. and I am sure they topped that since then, But to us N'Awlinders the big problem ( Marie ended up in the ER with what was either food poisoning and or het fatigue)was the HUMIDITY or the lack of it. We are used to humdity as high as in the 90% along with high 90 deg weather . But the 102-112 deg Vegas weather had humidity as low as 20 %. You didn't even sweat and as good as that may sound estetically that can bring on heat fatigue for people like us. However when Vegas or others people vist down here they swelter in the high humidity and the COLD as mild as it may be feels harsher with the same humidity. I think it increases the "Chill Factor" on bare skin. My brother who moved to Virginia ( just out side of DC) where it does snow said he forgot how cold 32 degs could feel down here when he wore a CPO jacket in Snow conditions in Menasas.

A while ago I told him I was going to try to visit him so th kids could se real snow. He begged "Please don't do that ." I have seen you Coonasses drive in the snow. And I am a COP who will patrol the street when you are doing it."

I guess it is all in what you get use to. Even after a change.
BUDDY

Nice here, just on 78 of your old fashioned degrees. Sun off and on with a smattering of cloud and a nice breeze...

Funny, when we go "back east", the high humidity is what KILLS us! ACK! I feel heavy, dirty, sweaty, sticky, can't wring myself out enough. And we do sweat here, but it evaporates so fast that you don't think you do. The lack of humidty is hard to get used to, we use a lot of skin lotion and hair conditioner until our skin and hair gets acclimated. It isn't so bad. But I guess that goes for anywhere your body isn't used to!

Hang out your clothes on a line and they'll be dry in minutes. Bread turns into croutons if the bag is left open at all. On the other hand, potatoe chips always stay crispy, even if you leave the bag open! In our houses, no mould!! (except in your science projects in the fridge) No fleas! I mean NO FLEAS! They can't live in this low humidity. I've not seen one single flea in the 15 years I've lived here. Mosquitos aren't bad either. If you drool on yourself, just go outside and within seconds, no-one will know! You don't have to blow-dry your dog. Or your hair.

And need I remind you how you were all feeling sorry for us last Memorial Day when you were lounging around your pools with your umbrellas in your drinks (PaulN!) and it was snowing here??And you felt sorry for me? Remember that? Ha!!

So...you know what they say....Climate is what you expect. Weather is what you get!
I DO hope it cools off for y'all soon. With that awful humidity and all. :D

Fourcorners, you will appreciate this one, my mom just sent it from there (not her story, but could be!):

Sacramento, California Diary:

May 30: Just moved to Sacramento. Now this is a city that knows how to live!!!
Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. What a place! It is beautiful.
I've finally found my home. I love it here.

June 14: Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.

June 30th: Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th: The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least it's kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat is taking longer than I expected.

July 15th: Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body). Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson thought. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th: I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got to the hot car at noon, Lomita had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank up the upholstery. The car now smells like Kibbles and **it. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat.

July 25th: The wind sucks. I feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!!And it's hot as he11. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the
AC repairman charged $200.00 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th: Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now. $300,000 house and I can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

Aug 4th: It's 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 85. I hate this stupid city.

Aug 8th: If another wise *** cracks, "Hot enough for you today?" I'm going to strangle him. **** heat. By the time I get to work, the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet and I smell like baked cat!!

Aug 9th: Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when I sat on the seats in the car, I thought my butt was on fire. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and butt. Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried butt, and baked cat.

Aug 10th: The weather report might as well be a **** recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do **** for 2 **** months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this **** desert? Water rationing will be next, so my $1700 worth of cactus will just dry up and blow over! Even the cactus can't live in this **** heat.

Aug 14th Welcome to H E L L!! Temperature got to 115 today. Forgot to crack the window and blew out the **** windshield in the car. The installer came to fix and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My sister had to spend $1500 to bail me out of jail. Freaking Sacramento!!!

What kind of sick demented idiot would want to live here???? Will write later to let you know how the trial goes.

Lance,

Bite me!

I heard on the Weather channel a minute ago that they had to cancel the races at Saratoga for the first time in the history of the track because of the heat!!

Steph, maybe you'd better stock up on ice for the pool!

the pool was a balmy 86 degrees last night ahhhh, though if it gets much warmer, you might pee and not know that you did it ...yikes

What amazes me are the places that don't bother to put the sign up - they just leave their doors open so that anyone walking by on the sidewalk feels the blast of cold air coming out. I think I've only seen this in NYC, but it is far from uncommon in the big, fancy (read "expensive") stores.

David, that may change here soon when oil hits the $200/brl that Iran is threatening.. naaah

idiots are idiots.

Steph, it better no snow, I'm only bringing shorts. :D

Oh, well, that surely is an inviting thought!!

You've probably heard of the old college prank of dipping a sleeping guy's hand in lukewarm water?? Well, maybe if you keep your hands above the pool surface there won't be any accidents!

Otherwise I'd keep the pee meter strips handy just to monitor things.

FGII

I hear they're building pee meters into swim suits now. Turns bright purple there. You may want to skinny dip instead. :D

OH we have it covered...trust me. There is an additive we put in that changes the color of the water where the pee hits it. Its funny to see how it swirls around the guilty party.

Hmmm I might have to throw a large tootsie roll in the pool at some point!

Darn storm last night blew out the electricity for 9 hours. It was still 87 at 10:00 and very humid. I ended up sleeping on the sofa in the basement, the coolest part of the house. The air finally came back on at 3:00am.

Snow? No way! Cooler temps would be nice, but I draw the line at wishing for snow.

I believe I have made similar posts in January's gone by when you were all bemoaning the fact that it snows and gets so cold...

Ours are turning brown but it has nothing to do with the natural progression of the seasons. Just too dam hot, burned up.

Since this thread has already gone South, I'd like to tell you about my swimming coach for the first couple years of high school.

He was from Missouri and everyone called him the Great White Buffalo.

His idea of a pre-meet pep talk was to line us up and say, "Y'all don't swim in the toilet, so I don't wantcha peein' in the pool!"

His background was teaching preschool swim lessons.

Reminds me of a sign I saw years ago in a pool shop:

"We don't swim in your toilet,

Please don't pee in our pool."

Balmy breezes here on the Pacific Coast. I had my share of snow now I can enjoy the sand between my toes. Come out and visit, a good way to cool down and get away from it all...
Grumblers always welcome..
