So just started doing framing lately and touch up seems to be my one really big weak point how would you guys go about fixing this or should I just abandon all hope and start over on this one? Not what I want so really hoping you guys have some secrets to make it look nice. Just kind of flaked off on me when gluing it up.

That smooth profile finish is not a good candidate for a repair.
If the customer had damaged it and wanted it repaired you might be able to get it done even though it would never be perfect.
If it's for a retail customer then you have no choice but to replace that leg.

If it “flaked off” and the missing black piece still exists, you may have a chance at gluing it back into place with minimal evidence.

It is what I call a dumpster frame.
There is no fixing this. Throw it away and buy a new one.

Fourthing the do-over sentiment. Gesso finishes are, unfortunately, nearly impossible to touch up without doing more work than what the material is worth.

If you wanted to go through with it or feel like you have to, you would need to fill the missing area, mask off the detail panel across the entire frame, and the refinish the black edge all at once so the finish matches. Even after all of that it may not come out looking 100% :/

Two fair choices and one bad one here:

Bite the bullet and rebuild the frame.

Glue back the missing piece (if it is more or less intact), spend an hour at least trying to fill, colour and disguise the cracks then give it up and rebuild the whole thing.

Third option is to fudge over it as best you can, show it to the customer in poor light - taking out a couple of your showroon flouros may help- and hope he hangs it in worse light at home. Then wait for an interminably long couple of weeks anticipating an irate 'phone call or a return visit demanding a replacement frame.

For your own sanity and the sake of your reputation I would not recommend the last option - you are better than that.:)

It’s been a month, I’m sure he’s figured it out by now 😀.
