Free Atlanta Tickets

I received my offer of free tickets last year about 2 weeks after I paid to sign up!

Yep! No freebies until the last second is my experience. Of course you could call your suppliers and ask.

Yeah, Jerry, I got mine about 6 DAYS after I registered online last year.

I just registered yesterday for admission and classes so I will probably get a gazillion free admission tickets this coming week!

Dennis, the freebies they're talking about are for admission to the trade show. This costs $10 in advance or $20 at the door.

Unfortunately, even if you score one of these from a vendor, you still have the matter of airfare (or lots of gasoline and Cracker Barrel meals,) hotel room (which start at around $120/night for rooms within a mile of the show site,) meals and, most important, refreshments.

And you'd certainly want to sign up for some classes and workshops. You can take all you want for $395 or pick-and-choose.

That being said, it's the best investment a framer can make in his or her career. Well, other than $25 for an introductory membership to the PPFA. (Or maybe it's really all Gobblety Goop.)

If you are in a purchasing position, for equipment or materials, you could conceivably save enough in "show-specials" to pay for the whole trip.

That to me is what the show is all about! Last year I drove my car, but this year I'm talking my truck. Some of the best deals are on Sunday, cash and carry. You need all the carry you can get! The deals more than paid for the trip.

The part you can't put a price on is contacts. Oh yea, and meeting the artist.

Classes? Gosh, who had time for classes? I really would like to take some this year, but there is a mountain of knowledge on the show floor.

Just maybe this year freakyframer will be there teaching us who to make money!

I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Jerry

Jerry, Darrell Keller from WallBuddies will be there. So will Jim Miller and ME.*

So if you don't buy some WallBuddies, and stop by the Omni Bar and buy me a beer, you're going to be in serious trouble!

(*Forgive me, Captain English.)

Jerry, Darrell and his other brother, Darrell?

I think I will stay at the Omni this year, I wasn't real happy at Amerisuites last year.

I do owe you a beer and I will try my level best to find you.

OK Dennis, there you go. I got you in for free. Now all you have to do is find a ride to Atlanta.
I would offer but I already have a truck full.

Jerry

Dennis, Jerry got you in, now plan on taking a drive. It would be about 9 hours from DC..not too bad. It's a show that you have to see to believe - and you probably won't see it all. Watch the airfares the week before. USAir will often list roundtrip flights to Atlanta at the last minute for $139. Atlanta has a great subway system. You can take the subway from the ariport to the hotel - forget airport limos and their fees. Book a hotel on Travelweb or one of the internet sites. We stayed at the Westin one year for $59. You'll be glad that you made the trip. (and check out all the education!)

If you don't want to drive, take the train or Greyhound bus. OK, so it takes longer, And our Shippensburg lady must be driving a Porsche or Ferrari. When I lived in Atlanta and the kids in Baltimore, took me about 12 hrs. for the drive.

Stay North in Roswell/Alpharetta or Perimeter Mall and there are cheap motels next to MARTA--the subway syste,m--that'll dump you right at the door of the expo.

E mail if you want more info. We lived in Atlanta for 12 years and know some cheap places that are convenient to the train system--MARTA that is.

Last year we drove to Atlanta, and it will be the last time we drive! I don't remember how long it took to get there (other than forever - we hit rush hour) but coming home we left at 6 AM and pulled in our driveway at 6 PM -exactly twelve hours. We're about two and a half hours north of DC. I'm a wimpy driver - I set the cruise at the speed limit...maybe we just hit good traffic on the trip home. But I would recommend finding a good air deal - it wasn't a nice drive. No Porsche or Ferrari - I haven't hit my mid-life crisis yet.

Twelve hours??

It took me ten hours to get to where I picked up my two passengers.

After that, it took an eternity!

Round trip non-stop out of Appleton is $191 directly from Delta's site. Conceivably cheaper from another site.

Maryann: you were indeed blessed with that time frame. It always--I mean ALWAYS--took my 12 hrs. from north Atlanta to Baltimore but I was going past Ellen's place around Frederick/hagerstown and down 40 east to Baltimore. Maybe your route to PA is shorter.

And I'm on my third midlife crisis which is why I'm shopping for a Cobra convertible. Gotta have a US muscle car and a convert before I'm too old to enjoy it. Maybe I'll take that badboy all the way to Balitmore at 90 or so nonstop.
