I have a client who has 5 separate drawings that they want framed in a row in one frame. They want it sandwiched between 2 planes of glass. The frame will be about 48inx14in. Due to weight would it be best to go with acrylic instead of glass?

What would be the best method to make the art float. One suggestion I saw on here was to adhere magnets to the back piece of glass/acrylic and use magnets to pin the paper there. That way the art was off of the back piece.

What width of frame would be best for this? The frame they're leaning towards is only 1/2" wide. Now that I'm thinking about it I'm not sure that would be to sturdy at 4ft long.

Thanks for any suggestions and tips.

Yes, use acrylic instead of glass.
Yes, pairs of 1/8" cube magnets probably would be a good mounting choice. Use a 1/4" or 3/8" spacer between the panes of glazing.
No, 1/2" wide moulding would be an invitation to disaster for that size. I would use at least 1-1/2" wide wood, preferably hard wood.

I think I'm going to try and talk them into doing each picture separately. Am I going to need a deeper than usual rabbit to accommodate 2 planes of acrylic?

The frame must be deep enough to accommodate two sheets of acrylic, the spacers between them, AND whatever material you are using to retain all of the above into the frame.
And, as Jim mentioned, the frame must be wide enough to have structural integrity even though you would not be able to add a vertical support (because it would be visible through the transparent borders).
