Frame Shop POS Software Comparison

What actually matters when choosing the right system for your shop

Choosing a POS system for your frame shop is a big decision.

Most framers have been using the same tools for years. Today, almost all serious options are cloud based. The real difference now is not cloud vs desktop. It is how well the system actually works in a real frame shop.

Let’s break down what actually matters.

Data Migration and Access to Your History

Switching systems used to mean losing your past data or starting over.

That is no longer the case.

Modern systems should allow you to bring over years of customer history and search it instantly, as if it was always there.

Framing POS supports full data migration with searchable access to past orders and customer records.

Speed at the Design Counter

This is where you feel the difference immediately.

Some systems still rely heavily on exact codes and rigid workflows. That can slow things down, especially when training staff.

A modern system should allow you to move quickly and naturally.

Framing POS focuses on fast search, flexible workflows, and fewer steps to complete a work order so you can stay focused on the customer.

Custom Work Orders and Printouts

Work orders are the backbone of your shop.

Not every shop works the same way, and your printed paperwork should reflect that.

Framing POS allows you to customize your work order PDFs and offers multiple layout options out of the box. This gives you flexibility in how you present information to your team and your customers.

Unlimited Users and Flexible Access

Your POS should not limit how many people can use it.

Some systems restrict users or charge more as your team grows.

Framing POS offers unlimited concurrent logins, so your entire team can work at the same time without restrictions.

It also works on any device with a browser. You are not tied to a specific operating system or hardware setup.

Purchase Orders and Vendor Communication

Ordering materials should not feel like a separate system.

You should be able to create purchase orders and send them to vendors without leaving your workflow.

Framing POS allows you to generate purchase orders directly from work orders and email vendors from within the platform.

Payments Without Being Locked In

This is an important one that many shops overlook.

Some systems require you to use a specific payment processor if you want full integration.

Framing POS is payment processor agnostic.

You are not locked into any one provider. We currently support Square integration and can add others as needed, allowing you to choose what works best for your business without being forced into a specific setup.

Two Way Text Messaging Built In

Communication with customers is a daily part of running a frame shop.

In some systems, messaging is either limited, requires third party tools, or comes with additional cost and complexity.

Framing POS includes two way text messaging built directly into the system at no additional cost, so you can communicate with customers easily without extra setup.

Real World Integrations

Most shops rely on multiple tools.

Email
Photos
Calendars
Accounting

A good POS should work with the tools you already use.

Framing POS integrates with common tools like Google services, allowing you to access work order photos, track production with calendars, and keep everything connected across devices.

Your Data Stays Yours

Your business data is one of your most valuable assets.

Framing POS does not sell, rent, or claim ownership of your data. You retain full ownership and control of your information at all times.

This ensures your business data stays private and under your control.

Built by Someone Who Actually Frames

This part matters more than most people realize.

Some systems are built by large companies or developers who are not actively working in a frame shop environment.

Framing POS is built by an active framer who works at the design counter, handles customers, works with vendors, and understands the day to day reality of running a shop.

That shows up in how features are designed, how quickly improvements are made, and how feedback is handled.

Room to Grow with Your Business

Software should not limit your future.

Some systems are closed environments, making it difficult to extend or customize beyond what is already built in.

Framing POS is building a Plugin Store that will allow third party developers and advanced features to be added over time, similar in concept to an app marketplace.

This opens the door for continued innovation and customization as your business evolves.

What Framers Are Experiencing

We are seeing consistent feedback from shops making the switch:

They can access years of past data right away
They are managing purchase orders and vendors more easily
They are not forced to change how they take payments
They are saving time with built in communication tools
They feel like their feedback is actually being implemented

There is still an adjustment when moving to a newer system, but many find it is the right long term move.

Pricing Without the Confusion

Pricing across the industry varies.

As of April 3, 2026
Some systems are over $120 a month
Some are close to $80 a month
Framing POS is more accessible, at $30 a month

The key is understanding what you are getting.

Framing POS keeps pricing simple and transparent, with no required add ons for core features like messaging, no forced payment processor, and no artificial limits on users.

Final Thoughts

There is no one size fits all solution.

The best way to decide is simple.

Run real orders
Test your workflow
See how it feels during a busy day

That is where the differences become clear.

There is no one size fits all solution.
Nothing can be truer that this.

There has to be a give and take on both sides - the software developer and the shop operator. Both sides have to understand the needs of the each other. If a software operator has developed features that are not wanted by only a smaller percentage of their clients it is not a big thing for a frame business to ignore these more detailed features. On the other hand if a frame business does not see a critical feature that the need it is a deal breaker to them in this partnership.

An example might when most shops have to deal with only sales tax entity vs very few might have to deal with several tax authorities(collection and recording of city, county, special tax districts, or multiple states), where some of what is sold is taxable and some is not taxable, or there are special tax holidays. There are over 1,300+ separate sales and use tax authorities in the US. As a secondary example in the online sales arena the "NEXIS" of internet sales has made it very complex from a business in one state is required to collect tax for the customers location(different from the sellers state).
