For the first time ever, some emails have vanished from my computers.

On November 22nd, I was corresponding with an Eastern-European company, and I sent or received at least five emails in that string. Only those emails have disappeared. I've checked the Inbox, All Mail, Spam, Trash, and Drafts. It's all gone. However, I have all of our previous email correspondence dating back to 2014.

I'm baffled. Do you have any idea how this disappearance could happen?

Is the same account also on your phone and/or tablet? If set up as imap method, it will purge from all devices if you purge from another.

If it is a cloud based email (gmail, yahoo, apple, etc) they may have identified the sender as risky or spam and taken it out. Did it possibly get moved to BULK or SPAM folder?

Is a FILTER applied that you used to search for it, that perhaps doesn't contain the correct term (thus leaving these out of results)?

Thanks for your reply, Mike.

After verifying that my Google storage is less than half-full, I finally found the emails in the "Trash" folder on my cell phone and forwarded them to my Inbox, which seems to have worked. Still no other record of those mails in my computers -- very strange.

Glad you found them.
Years ago I was corresponding with a local artist.
Somehow the artist deleted the message on her end, which removed them from my end.
I am still unsure how that is possible.
I believe both emails were gmail accounts.

We have had at least one, and maybe two, instances in the last couple of months where we KNOW we had some email correspondence and have been unable to locate it. Checking Bulk, Spam, Trash etc. We are using O365 with Outlook.

Side note: I HATE the way the native gMail web/app handles email by putting everything into one thread. I find it extremely confusing to find individual Sent or Received emails with ONLY the prior (at that time!) context. Outlook is not great, but it is what I am used to, and understand how to use. Oh, so I have my gMail account set up in Outlook and do everything I can there (personal use). Side side note: gMail was not saving copies of Sent email. I ended up creating a rule in Outlook to copy myself whenever I sent a gMail. In the rare case where I "needed" to use the gMail native app, I would manually CC myself. A Real pain...
