Hi all:

I am in need of a flat black profile shadowbox moulding that is 4.5 - 5 inches high. Any suggestions?

Someone may chime in with another suggestion, but you could utilize extensions available from various moulding companies such as Nelson Frame & Mldg in Traverse City, MI or Frame specialties, in Elkhart, Indiana.
 
check out Gemini- the Acrylic showcase. I just ordered one for an old baseball glove. They are not just acrylic, but wood shadowboxes as well.

Otherwise, Framerica boxers. I don't use them, but others love them.

Or just use a raised acrylic front on a shallower moulding ... makes it less like a coffin!
 
I build custom extenders. Its easy and you can cap it off with any moulidng you want.
 
You can find a few, but 5" deep moulding makes a shadowbox that tends to be more shadow than box. For that kind of depth, I'd suggest an acrylic box, and then you can use literally any moulding you want.

An acrylic box would show more of the items within, and because 5" deep mouldings are costly, as is the labor to build and finish a matching extender, an acrylic box may actually cost less.

Another alternative would be to use Framerica Boxers, which consist of cap mouldings and extenders in two depths, made to stack for any depth. I've seen end tables made out of Boxers, and they look pretty good.
 
Picture Woods right in Boulder, they are the BEST!!!! you will have to order chop unless you can cut something that big. And or Xylo Moulding if your into handfinishing, Krylon semi flat Black.
 
Well, maybe yes...:) I also sand it down with several grits of sand paper to about 600 grit, its really not a bad finish I've mastered it for years, but will only use Krylon paint they seem to dry the best. It very similar to Picture Woods black finish, although thiers is black laquer.

However it doesn't work out to well if your in Michigan and it's the dead of winter, cause you have to do it outside or in the gargage, and it never fails that I get a bunch of handfinish jobs on January. bbbrrrgh..
