I am stumped and I do not want boxers or not to combine frames if possible. I checked the archives and found Southwinds in Columbia, SC but does anyone know of an existing 6" deep shadow box moulding in silver, 6" is perfect will settle for 5 1/2 (I'll just have to jerry rig it a little)

Thanks,
Lynn

Few 6" deep mouldings are available because they are not popular. They are not popular because at that depth a major portion of the frame's contents are in the shadows. Also, sufficiently-wide planks of wood without warps or flaws are quite rare. What's wrong with the Framerica Boxers or stacking?

Why not an acrylic box? That would look better IMHO and would probably cost less than buying a custom-finished 6" deep moulding.

With several good and practical choices, you seem to have chosen the most difficult way to do this job.

IMHO This must be a Pacific Northwest vs. Mid-west thing...

I see lots of stuff coming out of the Mid-west using Boxers and stacking 7 deep....(What was with that Foos Ball table made out of Boxers? ) but as I travel around in our little backwater, we affectionately call home... I see very few Boxers being used. And not many stackers either....

My only suppasition is, that most people find Boxers to be overburden and butt-ugly.

The joint marks on stackers are still joint marks and distracting. As well as BU.

As for Acrylic box? Well, yes in some instances, I can see where it would be attractive.... I've even sold a few. As for cost.....

Ok, before I stick my whole leg in my mouth... I'll step down off my soup can and get on with this...

Lynn, ILO makes a beautiful 6" deep in gold, silver, or wood tones. What shape would you like? Square, capsul, oval, round, octahedralgeodesic?

And if the people are from "That other area", I'm sure you could gouge some phoney joint lines in the sides and call it stacked. :D

I'll get that 11" deep sample right out to you next week...LOL

What and where is ILO?

In Line Ovals. Cut Bank, Montana.

Made from MDF (medium density fiberboard).

Baer, you don't need to yell...kinda takes away from the "humble" in IMHO, dontcha think.

Foster's Planing Mill in LosAngeles has a profile that will meet your requirements. They mill several profiles that are unfinished; depends upon how much time you have to finish them. I use waxes for finishing and it works very well. We have made several shadow boxes that were 7" deep.

Lynn:

I may still have a sample which is about 5-6 inches deep, which I received a few months ago with other samples, from Decor, I believe.

When I get to the store on Monday, I will look for it and will post a picture if I still have it.

Thanks everyone for the help. Since the "customer" is my daughters mother-in-law I have a little leeway here, but will try Inline Ovals first since I have an account with them. She wants to put a wedding thing together (from her other son) and the cake topping was of the groom in a lazyboy chair with a remote in his one hand and the bride sitting on his lap and of course the chair just had to be in the reclinging position, tacky wedding cake topping but obviously someone thought it was cute, just not me!

Lighten up Lynn...LOL

That is a funny topper.... beats the one where the guy has a club and tiger skin clothes and is dragging her along by the hair.....

Lazy boy.... just begs for a soft german silver oval top with beer bellyed glass... I mean belled glass.. :D

Wally, how humble do you REALLY think my opinion is? :D
