Mention of delivery options the other day got me thinking: It seems that most framers might not know these shipping options. So instead of waiting for the throwaway idea to be co-opted for an article that adds in tons of words just to fill space, and as well as addspace making what should be ½ page into 3 pages of text, I will create an interactive article that will grow and change and be a viable online resource. And when a variation shows up in the trades, then you will know the origin and the more than likely unaccredited source.

So, on to the meat of it:

Here is Studio’s basic policy:
For an order over $100.00 they offer a 5% freight allowance. This means on a shiping cost of $18.21 on an order of $291.29, they will take 5% off, or $14.56 (if my math is right) and your shipping will cost $3.65

Free freight on an order of $50.00 or more when shipping via Ups for chops or straight cut or joined..

Other than UPS, they ship via different companies depending upon region.

Starting with LA, they also send via
Just In Time and Cal Overnight (or now called OnTrac)
JIT ships based on weight, and OnTrac charges based on the box. So, 2 boxes via JIT might end up being less than OnTrac, but one heavy box may end up being cheaper from OnTrac.

In NY they use
Network Deliv
Transmark http://www.shiptransmark.com/

Chicago warehouse send out locally via:
Speedy Deliv

Atlanta uses
Averit Express

Seattle:
Key Trucking

Universal has a slight different take on it shipping break:
Over $100.00 (in Greater LA area) gets your free delivery from their truck, or UPS, JIT or OnTrac.
Over $150.00 if you are SD to SF get you free delivery.
If you are not in those areas then it is over 100 gets your 5% freight allowance and
over $1500.00 gets you a 10% allowance.

Roma does not really have a general fright discount, but they do use assorted shippers to get the best cost for the customer.
Atlata
AAA Cooper
Courier now

New York
Transamrk

Puroaltre

Max Mldg in CA uses

Cal Over

Omega is free freight for a length order over $100.00 shipped via United Cal Freight
Or for 3 chops over $100.00 sent via UCF
They use JIT, UPS, and OnTrack, but free only via UCF.

NY, GA and IL warehouses of Omega use the other locals mentioned earlier

Now for the fun part that you can not do with an article in the trades. This one can grow as more information is uncovered. More vendors added. Incorrect information changed. And best of all You can disagree and shout from the rooftops about it too. And it will not be just you sitting on the toilet yelling at a magazine page. You can sit on the toilet with your portable keyboard and make a post about it.

As a side note, this is a developing article. As I get additional vendor information, I will add or change. Or feel free to post your info or experiences. Vendors your use, or would like to see. Or shippers you use. As well as contact info is great!!!

Marc, Thank you for taking the time and the legwork for this thread. I am sure it will help a lot of us.

Framer's Inventory, out of Portland, carries Studio,
and quite a bit of the Roma line, among other offerings.
They have a weekly delivery truck that comes in handy
when I don't have enough to order directly from those
companies and meet the free freight requirements.

Marc:
Can you clarify how you got $14.56 as a 5% freight allowance on a $18.21 freight charge? Am I doing the math wrong....5% of 18.21 is .91, so wouldn't you freight be $17.30? Thanks

As far as I know it has been Studio's policy for quite a while. The only exception that I know of is discontinued mouldings that have been heavily discounted.
I get Studio shipped out of Atlanta and usually get 3-4 boxes at a time. The freight for one box and for 4 is about the same. The 5% allowance usually makes up most if not all of the freight costs. BTW, they won't give you more than the actual freight costs should the 5% exceed it.
