Does anyone here have experience with the A+ Automation A44-P ?

I'm looking at it to replace my Cassese 299MXL 2.

We have used this machine for many years — the older version, which was called the Alfamacchine Minigraf 44 or 144. We also sold it and recommended it to other framers.

What exactly would you like to know about it?

The A+ is an ok underpinner the Cs299mxl is a good underpinner what do you need to know?
(Your current machine surpasses the capabilities of the A44 though)
Just looking to transition from Cassese to Fletcher/AMP. Looking for an “equivalent” or close. I don’t like the U400. The A44 has a 90degree adjustable fence - which I use all the time on my Cassese.

The issue with the Fletcher owned (various brands) of underpinners is the severe lack of efficient clamping which impacts greatly on the finished frame, you may well find you spend good money on a new machine which produces a poorer end product.

Unfortunately nobody has yet reproduced the quality of finished frame that the Cassese produced as the Fletcher group don’t seem interested in improving their ranges short comings (which is a shame)

In my limited opinion Cassese (even though they are now defunct) still exceeds the capabilities of the current AMP range.

Your money, your choice.

Let’s say somebody doesn’t own an underpinner and they want to buy new. What would be the best option?

Is the clamping on this as mediocre as stated previously by Underpinner Spares in your opinion?

If Underpinner Spares mentions this, trust him. This is what he does. Look at some of his other posts and the always sound advice he has given so many times.

I have a CS-89 and would not know what to pick if it ever fails or is beyond repair. But I would look at all options and advice that Underpinner Spares would give me.

We also moved from your exact Cassese model to U400 then to A+ A5 Memo TS model. Both the U400 and A+ machines are great/excellent alternatives depending on your needs. I’m only missing the pre-clamp feature that Cassese had.

My only issue with the A+ is how difficult it is to say or write the model number. Definitely named by an engineer and not a marketer.

You can add a pre-clamp to your machine.
