One of the benefits of having mine own website is that I seem to get a lot more spam than ordinary mortals. I've never done a count but it seems like its easily over 1000 per day. MailWasher helps me manage the daily deluge.

But lately I've been getting a lot of spam from China/Japan in their native languages. And not with our character alphabet but using the Hanzi or Kanji character set. And maybe some others; its all Greek to me.

Here is the subject line to a recent one.

And this begs the question WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???????

What spammer in their right mind sends span using their native character set? Do they think we can read it? Or respond? And its not just an occasional one, but bunches. What's the purpose? Who was the dim bulb that decided this? Darned if I know. Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Well, spiders spend hours building huge webs to catch one small flying insect. All it takes is one and they’ve eaten for the day.

YES! A lot of it, on all of my email addresses.

BITDEFENDER has an option to filter these. (and one for Russian spam, too)

Protection -> Antispam -> Settings -> Settings -> BLOCK LOGOGRAMS(ASIAN) [X] and BLOCK CYRILLIC (RUSSIAN, ETC) [X]

Bitdefender will identify/block them as spam, as well as common fraud emails like these from this morning. It includes them, in this case, so I can review them. I set a FILTER in my email client, which automatically moves them into a SPAM folder, from the inbox. (based on the word SPAM in the subject)

I don't get that kind of spam, but I've got to say the header on the main page (Is anyone else getting much) caught my eye.

I am only getting the usual level of spam and my email programme (Mozilla Thunderbird) is pretty good at identifying them. Of my several email accounts Hotmail and Yahoo seem to catch the most and my main one (Telstra) filters out most as they come in.

One suspicious incident happened recently:

I had to produce some documents to Centrelink - the agency which handles my Australian Government pension and did so at my local Centrelink offfice. Two days leter I got a crude fake email which looked like an official government notification that I had to provide information regarding my tax return. The email had a "click here to provide the information" link which, of course, was how I knew it was fake as no Australian Banks or Government agencies send links in their emails. I also retired 10+ years ago so have no business with the Taxation department.

Since then I have been bombarded with similar emails allegedly coming from the tax Office threatening me with legal action Centrelink telling my pension will be stopped all with the phishing link.

It is strange that this happened right after my visit to my local office but I cannot believe the staff there had anything to do with it as Centrelink takes customer confidentiality very seriously.

Put it in Google translate and see what it says in English. Could be a spammer wanting you to think it was Chinese.

Somehow I don't get much of the spam stuff.
I'm on 2 IMACs and it's pretty secure and dumps most of it without me having to do anything.
I translated the two messages that Larry posted.

This "warning" message probably just wants you to log in so they can get more info to scam.

I don't know what this message is about but I'm sure they are just fishing for more info to scam.
