Hi, I am new to the forum and I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I am framing World War 2 metals in a 13x15 shadow box. Does velcro come in large sheets so I could use it as a backing? Also does it come in colors other than black and white? Hope to hear from you soon, Framerlady

Hi Framerlady,

And a fitting first welcome from the Framerguy!

Concerning your problem with the war medals, have you considered sewing them onto the backing board? It would be completely reversible and would eliminate figuring out how to place the velcro hook material onto the backs of the medals. If you are framing full dress medals you may find that vercro may not be enough hold for the weight of the medals and ribbons.

Also, you could then use a fabric board ie., Moorman Suede or Linen, that would not require mounting the fabric as it comes that way.

As we all know from our frame corner samples expiring and falling off the wall that the self adhesive velcro may not be a good long term solution to use for framing metals.

There is a company called Medals of America located in Fountain Inn South Caroline They may be the countries largest framer on milatary medals I know of and they are big advocates of velcro for framing their medals.
We Frame a lot of Medals. We have been using a product by 3m called Dual lock sold by United Manufacturing. Don't quote me on this but I believe the 3m salesman told me the adhesive is good up to 350 degrees before it will start to slide. It works really well and you can mount it onto any non-oily surface.
love these green guys :D
