Quick-connector pneumatic fittings with metric threads?

All of the pneumatic tools I have seen were fitted with 1/4" NPT male/female quick-connect fittings. A friend has an Italian miter saw and says they will not fit his machine. Could this be a metric-threaded fitting? How can he adapt it to NPT for his compressor hose?

There are at least a bazillion different quick connect types if you include both the pipe thread end and the quick connect end.
