Lifesaver's FrameVue has been used in my shop for years with very good results. The new owner of my former framing business still has the system. Visualization software was quite popular for a while, but enthusiasm seems to be fading and I don't know of any significant improvements to the programs lately.
Using visualization at the design table takes some time, which discourages some framers. But with practice, composite images can be created in just a minute or two, and they can help to earn more and better framing orders from reluctant consumers. I think too many framers give up on the visualization concept before they learn how to use it and realize the advantages it can provide.
Besides the obvious first-purpose of helping with consumers at the design table, the viz program is useful in preparing bids for commercial jobs - you can include color images of the proposed framing with the bid, which is a unique and very impressive advantage.
Also, I often used the viz program to create color images of framed art to use in advertising.
