Hi all,

I'm new here. I'm writing as most of my work to this point has used Tru Vue's Museum Glass or Optium. I went to a supplier yesterday and was told there was an equivalent called Optix-L. I've not worked with this material before and wanted to know if anyone had experience with both and could speak to the clarity and conservation quality of this in comparison with Optium. Thankyou!

I would not say that it is an equivelant, but close. Yes in regard to UV protection, but a no in regard to anti-reflective coatings. It al depends on that the client is looking for.

Oh? If the client is looking for something close to Tru Vue's museum glass in terms of reflection control, would this be worth considering? The price is much lower than optium.

In reading the performance sheet there is no mention of anti-reflective coatings that I could find, just the 98% UV filtering (which is below TV's %, but that still doesn't compare which wavelengths are blocked).
If that is the is the case, this is more on a par with Tru Vue's Conservation Clear.
I got some information on a product from Evonik that is supposed to rival Optium Museum Acrylic, and the stats all look good, but the price doesn't.

From Plaskolite's Product Line Guide:
CONTINUOUS CAST CLEAR ACRYLIC SHEET OPTIX L continuous cast acrylic sheet has the highest clarity. It is easy to fabricate and form for many applications for interior and exterior applications with exceptional UV stability. It has superior thickness tolerance compared to cell cast sheets. OPTIX L is easy to clean and offers superior craze and chemical resistance. It is available in gauge range of 0.080˝- 0.315˝. Custom gauged and sheet sizes are available.

There is no mention of Anti Reflective qualities.
It looks like a UV Plexiglass

Welcome to the G!

Could your supplier order you a sample? I read the same thing as others, UV protection is there, but it doesn't mention anything about the anti-reflective layers of TruVue.
It would be interesting to see them side by side.

Thanks all,

I read the same... The supplier has no samples on site so I haven't assessed the plexi in "normal" conditions. It's looking like I should stick with Optium.

The Optix is actually pretty close the Optium. However, the price is deceiving. It seems lower but the size is not the same. It is pretty much the same price per square foot. It is nice that the short is bigger than 48" though.
