Would Optimum Museum Acrylic be a good non-reflecive choice for a 1-3/4 inch deep shadowbox? Customer is complaining about glare from standard framing grade acrylic. The lining in the shadowbox is deep black "suede".

What size is the shadowbox? You might be able to use Museum Glass.
It should be a good option, both MG as the Museum acrylic, but I would question where it is hanging. No matter what kind of glazing, there will always be some reflection. Better than the regular acrylic, for sure, but it won't eliminate all reflection.

Good luck fitting MG on black suede. A framer's nightmare :)

I would use the acrylic because there are no suppliers of either museum glass or acrylic here, so I have to ship it in. I also understand the care needed to prepare the glass for fitting. Do the same woes exist with museum acrylic?

Yes, and it would look AMAZING!

And hopefully, your customer knows not to hang it in a steamy/greasy room.

If it is about black suede and MG/acrylic, yes, same woes.

I actually charge extra for black suede and MG as I know it takes a lot more time to fit it right.
Ugh, I have plenty of trouble with these as it is using Optix Framing Grade, and quite a bit less with Acrylite Framing Grade. Mostly this is because of handling by my supplier as Optix film is not very durable, but there are also plenty of factory flaws in the Optix.

What difficulty should I expect with the Optimum Museum Grade Acrylic?

The shadowbox ID is 18x18 inches and the liner is 1-3/4 deep. It's going to cost me $111 to get a 20x24 sheet of Optimum Museum onto this island and if I have to sh!+-can it and start over...🙄

Is that because of chasing flumb, or because of the technical aspects of handling the Museum Acrylic surfaces?

It's because every little thing shows on black suede, and MG helps you see it. :icon45:
For your project, if Museum Glass is easier to get, use that. If there is no difference, you can use either product successfully.
You can fit initially using some flexible points, in case you have to get back in to remove stray bits of debris. Once you are sure it is ready, finish with the rest rigid points.

You might want to check on the availability of Art Glass by Groglass. They were a recent sponsor of the G and had an offer of shipping a crate of their AR99, which is like Museum Glass in being anti-reflective and UV filtering, at a special price with the freight included.

Otherwise, the one thing to remember when sing Optium is that, because of the coatings, you clean it like you would glass. Don't use plastic cleaner on it. Glass cleaner and microfiber cloth work just fine.

Thank you everyone! True that I could have the MG shipped here, but I only need one piece, so I'll choose to have just one 20x24 inch sheet sent by parcel carrier.

art glass is a good option; Optium Museum Acrylic would be better if it's in your budget. it's very durable, and the anti static properties make it relatively easy to keep clean. Every time i finish a piece with Optium Museum Acrylic i find myself wishing i could put it on everything because it's so hassle free. Sadly, it's not very budget friendly.
