Ideas for framing stamps?

I have a project I am working on and could use some suggestions. I want it to be simple, but creative.

What I have is two sheets of Elvis stamps for a collector. One of the sheets comes with a sleeve made to look like a record sleeve with a hole in the center, of course you can only see the stamps through the center hole. I was hoping to be able to use this, but not sure if I want to cover up the stamps (although there are two sheets). I was thinking side by side one covered and one not? Doesn't seem too interesting though. I don't necessarily HAVE to keep the sheets whole either.

Anyone have any suggestions? I do not have a CMC, so unusual mat cutting is pretty much out unless I go somewhere to have it done. I'd like to do it with what we have if possible.

Elvis stamps? Hmmmm Bic lighter comes to mind. Or water bath in epsom salts.

Oops, sorry... thought this was Warped.

just think WWTKD.

Yea I like the look of what they do, but I have a whole sheet of stamps and they are all the same stamp. Not individual ones that are different. If they were, I could do a lot with it. We'll just have to see what I come up with, since NOONE is feeling creative today!:faintthud:

Well, first of all I hope your mats will be black velvet. You have to do black velvet!

You're kind of limited by the artwork here -- you can't detach any of the stamps, so you have to work with them as a rectangular sheet. Can you post a pic of what they look like in and out of the sleeve?

Maybe you can jazz it up by adding some other things to the framing, like a couple of pics of Elvis?

how about scanning the sheet and picking one or two images and blowing them up as a frontispiece to accompany the sheet of stamps?

Can anyone below the border comment on the legality of doing this?

sequins, bellbottom cut outs on the mat. Grilled Peanut Butter and banana smeared on the frame? disco ball hanging in the shadowbox. photos of Elvis as a backdrop.....

Cadilac ads from the 70's wrapped around the frame. 45's sticking out from under the stamps. mount staps onto a circular mat board and have the 45's under it. if strategically done they can be no name 45's so you won't have to find any old Elvis 45's!

Depending on how the final is presented.. It's Copyright Encroachment or Copyright Infringement. 1-3 or 3-5 your pick. ;)

It's also refered to as the "Doolittle Syndrom" which is not to be confused with the "TK Desease" or "Remarke". :icon10:

I framed a sheet of those when they first came out. Sorry for the terrible photo- I was standing on a ladder when I took it. Those are little guitars in the corners, and the mat is (what else?) blue suede.
Unfortunately, this was before conservation glass, and I had a LOT of light in my old location, so they are pretty badly faded. I switched to UV glass when it became available, but by then the damage had been done. Alas.

Framing Stamps

The best idea for mounting stamped is to encapsulate them in mylar. I usually keep a 48" inch roll in the shop. Cut 2 pieces 1 1/2" bigger around each sheet and use mylar film tape (i think 3m 969) to seal it on 4 sides with a 1 inch air hole. now you can mount the stamps to your backing board and mat around the perforations without the stamps sticking or falling through the opening. I'm not going to presume to help with the design I'll leave that to the elvis fans

Stamp mounts are made for philatelic material...

Although this is fine and will work to protect the stamps, I would prefer to use real stamp mounts designed specifically to hold stamps securly for collectors. Showgard is one name and perhaps the most readily available in shops and online.

I framed a full sheet of Elvis stmaps some time ago that was featured in a Decor Magazine article. I'll pull of the issue date when I get home from Baltimore, but you can also read another version of the article here...

That's a mottled painted bevel with black on black matting. I believe we use a black metal or wood frame with this design.
