The photos don't help all that much. You need oblique lighting to show the waves.

Please explain just how you did mount the photo?

I also can't see any waviness from those photos.

Please share photos of how you mounted the piece.
The term "knot taped" is unfamiliar to me. Is it a common phrase in your region?

Was the item wavy before you did any work to it?
If not, do the waves appear after it is under the mat, glass and set in place in the frame?

I see blobs of reflecting light. It looks like the photo has a glossy finish, was likely rolled at a point, and since it isn't dry mounted, any undulation is super noticeable. Hinging or not hinging won't make much of a difference. If not super valuable and easily re-printable, dry mounting would be a viable option and the way to go in order to make it lie flat as possible. Otherwise, it is what it is.

To my eye, these are the effects of the wavy areas. Is that correct?

Since it's not taped across the top, how did you attach it? With plastic corners? I'm also wondering how long it's been since completion, and how you backed it. Does it have just
matboard as backing, or foam core?

Glossy photos are always going to show even slight undulations.

I had a customer once with a 20x30" that he wanted close-framed in a metal frame.

I warned him that it was going to show big waves when the light was from the side.
I suggested drymounting but it was likely to be a bit 'orange peely' but at least the
surface would be even. I drymounted it.
When he came to collect it he remarked that it looked a bit orange peely...
I said I told him it would. 🤣
