I received this today, and it apparently goes live in just 3 days. It uses the long time Tag/Tile tracking system of bluetooth devices, which rely on other peoples devices to track your location within 16 feet of your device. Apple does something similar, called "air tag".
This is IN ADDITION to the long time existing "WHERE IS MY PHONE? / WHERE IS MY DEVICE?" Google search that lets you track your registered device.
Maybe a bit intrusive? I'll opt in, but wow that's a big sudden change.
