Yes, you read right.... what's more, it's painted both sides, with no paint near any edge, meaning any tape will show, and is fairly heavy for it's size (15 x 19 5/8). I may get away with small pieces of AF ATG... any other ideas out there in the framing ether?

Thanks!

Since you've patiently waited almost a day with no other suggestions, here's one.

Use hinges of 3M #887 tape. Like Mylar, it is made of clear polyester film, and it has a very good acrylic adhesive. It adheres to clear polyester film better than anything else I've seen so far, and it is so thin that it probably is the least-visible choice.

You could cut a window in a sheet of Melinex 516,matching the size/shape of the artwork plus 1/32" on all sides, and hinge the art in the window with a couple of pieces of #887 tape.

Suspend that Melinex "window sheet" in a larger window mat of 4-ply mat board. If it is to be a recto/verso framing design, then make a recto/verso window mat of back-to-back 4-ply boards.

If the edges have to show, how could you use ATG tape? Using any double-sided tape, you would have to overlap the two surfaces, right? Even if it would work for this job, ATG would be among the last of my choices, because it is thick and has no carrier. It would be quite visible and it could migrate, especially on the slick surface of Mylar.

Thanks Jim.... I believe the 3m 887 may be the way to go. Unfortunately there will be no mat.. the art is to be floated on a riser of 3/16 affc and ragboard cut the same size as the art and back beveled to not be seen, on a rag back 1/2 inch visible all around with rag/dibond spacers making a shallow shadow box... It is not recto-verso as the back paint is meant to be seen through the front... I've framed a lot of contemporary works on paper this way and they look great, appearing to float in space, this is the first mylar piece... and I'm not convinced I am going to do it. The other issue is the OP2 and static with the mylar..... ATG was my choice of last resort, and I never liked the idea...

If you want to use acrylic glazing without static, use Museum Optium Acrylic or Optium Acrylic. The optical coatings that make it almost invisible also remove static charge completely. No other acrylic sheeting has that attribute.
