I found an old Fletcher Terry cutter to buy cheap just for an extra glass cutter, but I can't find any info on this cutter.
Can anyone shed any light on this? It has the Fletcher-Terry sticker still on it and I can't read the photo they sent but they say it is a model 5774!

TIA

If it is this hard finding info on it imagine how hard it will be to get replacement parts.

With the glutten of used equpment hitting the market I would keep looking unless you feel like gambling.

Good luck with your decision,

Bob

I'm pretty sure that this subject has come up before over the last few years. As I remember it, you can no longer get parts for it, replacements would have to be recreated from a machine shop (read expensive) I don't think you can even get blades, but I do remember someone saying that blades for the 3000 could be ground down to fit.

All in all, you would be better off looking for a model 3000 at a decent price. Be patient as one will turn up within a reasonable distance if you keep looking.

Info, beside being old....

Hello Elementary School Art Teacher,

Since the machine that preceeded the F-3000 was the F-8460...

And that the 8460 was Introduced in 1984 and had a cutting capacity of 60 inches....

I would guess that the machine that you are examing, might have been introduced in 1957 and have a 74 inch cutting capacity.

Have you phoned Fletcher-Terry? Talking to one of their customer service reps might be a good place to start.

Pretty old...it should be pretty cheap.

jbNormandog- I feel like gambling...and its real cheap...and I probably won't need extra parts. Basically all I need is the frame to keep the glass square.

rhop- Yes I have, to no avail. I would think they would have a more detailed historical overview of all the old cutters, etc. Nope.

jPaul- see above...Thanks for the suggestions.

John Ranes- Good idea to get on the phone. I hate the phone, but it might turn up something.

Luddite- Heh, heh. I'll check it out. Thanks for the link.

This place is great. Don't you just love the internet! Even with all the cr@p, it is THE place I get information these days. Thanks everyone.

Update...

TIA,

Speaking to good friend Rich at Fletcher-Terry, and I was confirmed on a couple of bits of information.

The 7554 was made from 1975 to 1984. It utilized a Pillar Post system in the cutting head similar to the 8400 series.

Fletcher still has the 8400 pillar posts that holds the glass wheel and the plexi blade. The mat cutting posts are gone.

No spare parts are available for the 7554.

John

I have the 7554 model and looking for a pillar post to hold the glass scoring wheel. Wil the 8400 serise pillar post work on the 7554 model?

Will the 8400 series pillar posts fit in the 7554 model?

Leinpr, You may be better off calling Fletcher's tech support on this one. The post by John Ranes is 14 years old.
