Lotus Elyse Custom Framing
Received a frame from a shop that had scratches on the face of the frame (as shown in the picture) . Was wondering if there were any other methods of fixing a satin finish frame other than wood putty and a sorts of satin marker? And if that is the only route, would there be any recommendations of markers best used to match the satin finish look? It needs to be more on the matte side than the gloss side.

Yeah, you'll never fix that so it looks like the rest of the frame except to refinish the whole frame.

Hi Lotus, welcome the G! :)
I would also not bother trying to spot repair that. Anything you do in a small area will not match the finish exactly.
You would just have a different sort of obvious flaw.

You say it came from a shop, but I see you are a custom framing shop also?
Is this something a customer brought to you?
If the damage was done by the original shop, they should fix it.
If the damage happened because of poor handling after it left that original shop, is the customer asking you to fix it?
If that is the case, there isn't much that can be done about that kind of damage without doing as framah suggested and refinish the whole thing.
Is that amount of work (especially if you have never done it before) worth more or less than making a replacement frame?

I am a bit confused about what you're asking/dealing with. You received a frame from a shop? How come? Not sure if I understand the story.

Other than that, looking at the few dents and dings and that scratched of corner, as well as the bad miters, a new frame is the more economical solution to this.

I concur. Not feasible to fix.

Possible? Yes, at great expense of time. Cheaper to replace, unless the moulding is a lot more expensive than it looks.

IMHO that hideous miter joint is a far worse defect than the scratch!
The joint seems to have been made with a blunt axe weilded by a madman on a rampage! ;) ;)
