I'm checking to see if there's any interest from anyone in buying out my stock of DMC embroidery floss (6-strand). Thought I would check here first.

In the last two years, 3 competitors have begun carrying it, so there is no need for me to carry it any more. I basically had it so that people in this town didn't have to drive 45 miles to get it.

I have approximately 5500 skeins of DMC floss. Some of it came from what I bought from other stores that went out of business; some of it came from my regular suppliers as I restocked. My stock consists entirely of the basic 454 (?) colors. I don't stock any of the multi-color or metallic styles. Except for the blacks and whites, I bought 2 boxes (12/box) at a time of each color when I restocked, so "generally" there are not more than 24 skeins of any particular color.

If anyone would be interested in buying out my stock, please send me a PM with an offer. I can get a detailed list of quantity per color (and update my count so that it is exact) if someone making a serious offer would like that. I will not be counting anything without an offer.

I'm not going to sell the skeins in ones and twos here online, it's just not worth my time. However if you are willing to buy at least 500 skeins, I would also be willing to discuss an offer from you.

I also have 13 official wooden DMC 3-drawer floss boxes. It's enough to be able to carry the entire line. Twelve are of the older wooden box style (nicer), and one is of the newer laminated faux-wood style. These boxes normally seem to sell on Ebay for $75-85 each if anyone would be interested in them as well.
 
John, while I am not looking to add the product to my offerings I was thinking that if you would give a price range of typical wholesale per item it would give a point of reference. I would think there are very few custom framers that would have any idea of cost on such an item. There are a lot of framers looking for product lines to expand into and I'm sure you could put them in business for much less than if they did it from scratch.
 
There are 20ish national distributors for DMC floss in the US. Their wholesale prices have quite a wide range. I did my homework so I generally got the best price I could and I ONLY bought in quantities that would entitle me to free shipping. If a company didn't offer free shipping at some level, I didn't do business with them.

Typical best wholesale price you can find with this in mind is around $.32 per skein. I sell them in my store for $.45 per skein. (I am not trying to make a profit, only to cover costs.) The normal retail price nationwide is $.69/skein in NON-BIG BOX stores, while it runs between $.25 and $.35 per skein in M's, H.L.'s and Joann's. (How fair is that?) Here, the other 2 independent stores sell floss for $.69/skein and the new Joann's is around $.34/skein.

I'm very willing to sell below my cost if I can get rid of most/all of the skeins that I have.

If you are considering adding this line to your business, I can share my list of vendor information. But honestly I figured this would appeal more to someone who already has a steady business in DMC floss and would like to stock up cheap. :)
 
No kidding! The stuff is imported from France, so last year when gas prices went up so high, wholesale prices on floss went up on average by about 5-6 cents in the space of about 6 months. May not sound like much, but that's 20-25%. Some of the companies I have dealt with have had 3 price increases in the last 2 years alone.

The DMC floss boxes are still for sale. Probably I should link a photo from ebay, as you can usually find them for sale on there.

France is a quick hop from me and the RRP of a basic DMC skein in UK is about £0.76 ($1:15 at the current exchange rate) - we sell them (well) for £0.68 ($1.03) but some of our competitors sell them at £0:80.

UK is subsidising you.
 
DMC Floss and Boxes

If you will read up 4 posts, you will see that I already sold the floss.

However, I do still have the boxes. I never got around to packaging them up to sell. If you are interested in them, send me a PM.
