Clear coat recommendations?

My client asked for a certain gold frame with black over hue. Turns out the black is rubbing off on my fingers and I would hate to have that transfer to the art. My idea is to spray it with an acrylic or polyurethane to seal it. Is this a good idea and is there a product anyone swears by in this circumstance?

Did you use flat or satin?
