I just purchased some Beva 371 Film and have been using my Selector tacking iron at low to medium and using my infrared thermometer to check proper temperature of 150F or so…it varies a good bit, but think its time for a new tacking iron. Most everything i find has a low temperature of 180 to 200. I have looked at the Hangar 9 (dig and non dig), 212F lowest, NOS Seal which generally start at around 180F, although did find a NOS Coverite COVR2700 which has a range of 150F to 400+F.

Since I am sure others use tacking irons with Beva and even the Talas YouTube looks like they are using the one they sell, which oddly has a temperature range of 212 to 428.

What are people using? What am I missing?

Whichever one you buy, please keep an eye on it. A few years ago, a tacking iron
from a very good supplier began melting, while in use. It took a minute for me to
realize that the top plate was melting from the inside, during which I breathed
the fumes. Given that breathing melting plastic fumes is the fastest way to toast
one's pancreas, I now wear a cartridge respirator. And I no longer leave the tacking
iron on, while running off to do other things.

Thanks, good advice. I ended up just going with the tried and true Seal. Found a new old stock for $60 on eBay, figured a bargain
