I swear some of your are "chemists" so here goes

I'm going to be trying a "gifted" glass cleaner. In the ingredients it lists the following
-alkoxylated alcohols
-diol????? (what is this) and
-isopropyl alcohol

are these "bad alcohols" for MG cleaning or acrylics???
thanks

For cleaning acrylic you don't want to use glass cleaner anyway, but use acrylic cleaner.
The exception is Optium, for which they recommend glass cleaner instead.
TruVue's branded glass cleaner is the same as Sparkle brand, which is what I use.
 Rick

thanks.. I currently use Sparkle....
but I was interested in testing a different product
(and yes, Acrylic gets acrylic cleaner- it was a broad question regarding the different types of alcohol)

I have never heard of the first:
Alkoxylated alcohols are nonionic surfactants made from various fatty alcohols ethoxylated and/or fatty acid propoxylated with various degrees of alkoxylation. These nonionic surfactants make excellent emulsifiers. Very useful in shampoos and bubble baths to control and adjust viscosity and lubricity.

The term diol simply implies the presence of two alcohols. Polyols contain two or more -OH groups. The root name is based on the longest chain containing both the alcohol groups.

From Tru Vue's website:

Cleaning

All of Tru Vue glass products are clean and ready to use. If spot cleaning is needed use the following techniques:

  • Place the glass on a clean, non-abrasive surface for cleaning.
  • Use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the glass. Tru Vue recommends using a micro-fiber cloth.
  • Spray a small amount of ammonia-free cleaner onto the cloth. Spraying on the cloth will prevent overspray.
  • Press the cloth against the glass and clean in round, circular motions.
It seems like all Tru Vue cares about is the lack of Ammonia.
I would not hurt to contact Tru Vue to make sure.

thank you. I read those descriptions too, but didn't know what they meant. I guess as long as no ammonia...its worth testing.

Lately, the sparkle hand been "cleaning" well - or quickly - and I thought I'd try something new
thanks

I always use, and recommend, the use of Ammonia free glass cleaner just because this is what is recommended, but I never knew why. Does it off-gas even after you wipe it dry or something? Customer always asked me why "Ammonia free" glass cleaner and I never have a good answer. Just that it's recommended.

I remember when I was in 2nd grade our teacher would use ammonia to clean the tables.
