oh nooo! driver is shooting blanks; any idea how to fix it? switching to flexible gun, but prefer the other!

My Elpa gun jammed up last night too. I have a bunch of them so it wasn't a big deal to grab another one. Good luck on getting it fixed. I am betting Rick is correct unless it broke a spring.

I don't think Rick said it was a broken spring, just that a point was jammed in the unit.

Take the point cartridge out and get the point that is jammed out of there.

It only happens when you are busy and on a deadline. It is usually either a broken point in the cartridge or the spring. If it is the spring, it will fire, but the points don't leave with enough force to penetrate the wood. If it is completely jammed, it is usually the cartridge.

Thanks for everyones input!

R.I.P. my point driver: It has given me an unselfish seven years of daily abuse!!

It wasn't a jammed point, and I don't believe it was a broken spring. Of course I took the whole thing apart only to have the spring go sprong and I have parts all over the table!!
I'll tackle putting it back together another day. (didn't get a get look at where everything should be before 'sprong') :icon19:
Right now, I'm focussed on my last six frames

The only difficulty in re-assembly is getting the spring in. Put a pencil through the spring and use it to guide the spring into place.

I don't think Dave said that Rick said it was a broken spring, either.

Aah, I didn't see the word "unless". I read that last sentence as "I am betting Rick is correct [strike]unless[/strike] it broke a spring."...

Sorry Dave, selective vision issues from too much framing :)

definitely toast! spring and the mechanism broken!!

My point driver stops once in a while and I just give it a firm whack against a metal shelf and that solves the problem. Once it is in pieces I do not think it would be as effective.

I know this is late, but I just bought a Fletcher flexi point driver that has no tension. The buffer is completely disintegrated, so the handle can't catch. The repair kit is 19.00 yay. Shipping takes it up to 65dollars

I have a similar problem with my Fletcher flexi driver. The handle doesnt engage unless I pound it and flip the handle quickly. What is the problem? I noticed that most of the answers were back in 2011

Take a look at the repair kit. You'll see a squarish plastic thing. That might be your problem. I could see crumbly bits of plastic in my driver, even without taking it apart. Your buffer may just be cracked.

At some point, the time you spend trying to figure out what is wrong, ordering parts with shipping costs added and then trying to fix it, it ends up being cheaper to get a new one.

My driver started to bend the points and I just went onto Amazon and bought new one! Better with Amazon Prime..free shipping.

I gave up on the manual point drivers few years ago and bought a Fletcher Pneumatic Point Driver. Pricey but my hands thank me every day. I could never get the manual drivers to drive a point as deep as the pneumatic. I tried a couple of the imitations but none did the job like the Fletcher.

I was lucky enough to have a client who was a former custom framer give me some of her old equipment.
Now I have two black and one green fletcher point gun, plus a yellow Logan flexigun.
I'm set for a long time (I hope).
I have another black one that I thought I would try to fix. But sounds like that's not worth it?

Yep - it's one of the things you never look back on/wonder why you never did it years before, up there with manual mat cutter/CMC and manual/pneumatic pinner. I have an Omer 53 - I don't remember for how long but I'll go for 15 years - it seems to thrive on neglect, has never misfired or jammed once. (It will, naturally, explode and kill me tomorrow)

THank you for the information I guess I should get a new one!
Hi, Nama. If you buy a Fletcher Frame Master, it's a good idea to buy their repair kit, too.
Not as well made as they used to be. We use them, but keep a repair kit handy. Happy framing! :)

Did you know that the light bulb was originally made to last waaaaaaay longer than it now does?

At some point in the past, the major bulb manufacturers decided that rather than compete for who can make the longest lasting bulb, they should standardize
the life to 1,000 hours so they would ALL benefit and profit making replacements.

I'm sure alot of stuff is made this way.

EVERYTHING is made that way.

Help!!!! I too have a point gun, a Logan Dual Driver Elite. Last time I used it, it was fine but I just tried it again and it wont fire the points. It sort of just half pushes them out, not enough to penetrate the frame. I have checked for stuck points, nope none. I have put in a new line of points but it is still happening. I actually got a proper 'click' for the fire when the gun was empty, but that was a fluke. It hasn't happened again. I have tried adjusting the depth but that doesn't do anything either. After reading the posts above, i am scare to take it apart in case it goes 'swoosh' and i can't get it back together again. I don't frame often at all, so I don't want to buy an new one, this one has hardly done any work at all. What am i missing here.

Hi, Jules. Welcome to the Grumble! Sorry to say, I'm not familiar with the Logan Dual Driver Elite. Perhaps if you contact Logan, they could help?

Hi Jules. I have the same issue. My Logan Dual Driver Elite will drive a couple of points every 20 or so clicks. I can't find any info on repairing it via search engines either.
