Yet another question on flag framing

I have read all of the old threads about flag etiquette but this one has me stumped.

A young military guy came in last week with one triangle folded flag he had carried with him in his pack during his tour of duty in Afghanistan, and another flag, also carried, but folded and still in plastic from the manufacturer (both Made in USA I am pleased to report).

He wishes to present these, along with certificates, to his mom and his dad.

Since the folded one was not folded during a ceremony, he told me it would be OK to refold it if necessary for the framing. He and I spent several attempts at folding the other flag. He told me it was OK to refold that one too if necessary.

So I tried folding it this morning (slippery nylon) and I just cannot get it to match the first one.

BUT - after looking closely, it seems that the first one has been folded incorrectly and the BACKS of the stars are showing instead of the fronts. I am sure men would not notice the difference in stitching, and it took me a while to notice - but now it sticks out like a sore thumb!

So, here's my question: on an inexpensive flag where the front and back is not completely identical - I fold it so the FRONT is on the outside, yes?

Yep...if there is that much difference between the front and back. See it all the time with the flags that come back for flying over the base camps.
