That is very good, but I need to buy one. Can you provide the website that you got yours?

Certainly spend money if you can to get a good unit. I ended up getting Logan's $150 manual 8-inch. Works great! Too bad United doesn't carry the discs for it, and I forgot where I bought the thing at.

You can get the sanding discs for a Logan sander at Home Depot, Menards, or any other larger hardware store. I used a Logan for a few years and I agree it works just great, to bad they don't make it a little larger so that you can sand wider profile mouldings.

I use a sander in 1 out of every 20 or 30 frames, in fact I don't really remember the last time I used the sander, it's been at least a month ago. I know of a few other framers that don't even have a commercial sander and their mitres are near perfect. It is nice to have a sander but if your saw and/or chopper are properly adjusted it is not a mandatory item. I haven't had any complaints about my mitres yet and I use little to no filler. Just my opinion.

At least all of our Home Depots only carry 7-inch disc, this Logan is 8-inches.

Btw, I did see Logan for sale at United, must be where I got it from then.

I always bought my sanding discs at Menard. Can't remember if I bought a little larger and trimmed them down or not - it's been 8 or 9 years ago that I stopped using the Logan sander. I do remember that purchasing the disc that Logan sells is at least double the price of what I was paying for a sanding disc at Menards.

I have to agree with Joe. We have made 1000's & 1000's of frames and the miters must like they grew together to pass. I started with a $189 Dewalt and now have 2 double miter saws , no sander ,and I thought filler was just for nail holes in door trim. Saws need to be fine tuned and more important is the blade. The saw can be perfect must the blade must be more than perfect.

Have rarely needed to sand moulding narrower than about 2" where there is enough flex in the moulding to take up minor warps & twists. But for those intractable 3" on up super stiff mouldings the sander is a life saver. An 8 foot long side only needs to be warped a tiny fraction of an inch to merit a little sander work.

Having said that, I really hate sanding. It's one of those things that drags down the workflow to a snail's pace. Like filling corners.

I agree 100% if you cut your own frames, you should be able to get good corners without a sander.

But..........if you order chops................thats another story.

But having a mitre sander is very usefully when customers bring in their own broken frame and want you to rejoin it back to the same size. Using the saw would shorten the frame. I guess you could have file the edge by hand....

WC Framer, I agree that having a sander is nice but it isn't an absolute necessity. There are times that the sander has saved the day but it isn't very often that it is used. Most of the time the sander just sits there, but then again most of the tools, with the exception of the chopper/saw, cmc/mat cutter, and glass cutter, usually just sit there until you need them.
