I've had my website with Microsoft Live for many years and they are discontinuing the product. They have a new product but I'm not that impressed.

Have you made your own website from Wordpress.org? Was it easy? Good stuff? Bad stuff? Would you share your website with me? Feel free to PM me if you wish. Thanks!!! Susan

Here is mine ... starfishframing.com/.

I did not create it, I had some one do it for me, but it is very easy to work on. It currently needs some love. And you just reminded me I need to change my hours in the little box thing over there, thanks!!

It is very much like a word processing program. You can even download the app and work on it from your phone. I haven't tried that.

I spoke to a professional about my needs and she was kind enough to send me in the direction of wordpress.com. She seemed to think that having hosting and a template would work for our shop. Susan

WordPress is generally considered the premiere platform for blogs. I use it for mine, but until I saw Mary’s, I thought that WordPress would have some limitations if you wanted fancy rollovers and animations. WordPress has some very nice themes/skins available.

Mary has done a very nice job on her Starfish site. I am quite impressed.

The basics of WordPress are fairly simple to learn. They have some very good tutorials on line. To learn some of the more esoteric functions, though, you have to dig a little deeper.

Mary--Nice new site! Our son is working on a new site for his law practice, and I will show him this because you would never know it was Wordpress. Who is your web designer?

Consider Google Sites also for a simple and easy to use platform www.sites.Google.com

Or for a platform that will allow for a relativley easy start, but that will allow you site to grow to whatever you may need in the future consider Magento http://www.magentocommerce.com/

Giammarco my web advisor is a very strong Wordpress developer, however, he is more and more advising the use of Magento, there is a huge community of Magento support people around the world.

Mary, I'm also seeing a number of good sites created in Wordpress. I assume that you have access to editing, in addition to your designer?

Here's a pair of typos that you may want to correct on your About Us page...

...AJ drove the motor home towing the 18 foot enclosed trail with most of the tools and equipment we bright with us in it.

John

P.S. Nice job!

Just a word of caution.

Techinically, building a website in Wordpress.com and with the Wordpress framework from Wordpress.org is somewhat different.
Notice the ".com" and the ".org".

Wordpress.com is a web hosting site that uses the Wordpress framework. The are some limitations that you can not do when you have your wordpress site hosted in Wordpress.com. For example, the last time a look ( which was several months ago ), you can not have iFrames.

Here's a more detailed list of differences between the 2 described in Wordpress.com: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Regards,
Troy
