Has anyone used the wizard mitre cutter from United to cut filets? Looking for something to cut filets without investing in a chopper. Any other ideas? I'm new to using filets

A,wise :I am sure that Filet cutters arevery efficent pieces of equipment. However have you tried to cut your filets with what ever you are cutting your frames with? (Saw or Chopper) I have use both and while the scales are not calibrated for filets and take some adjusting they do cut them good enough for my standards, and I didn't need to buy a special piece of equipment that only cuts filets. After all just how many filets will you be cuttingto warrant the added cost?

I buy my frames chopped and join them myself. So I don't have a saw. That is why I was considering going this route. :D

Yep...it sucked. Crushed the fillet instead of cutting it, not accurate enough. Don't waste your money. Have you considered a real fillet cutter? They're only about $300.

I used an X-acto miter saw with some luck for a few years. United's #3411, it's only $18. It takes a light touch and very accurate marking as there isn't any trimming a hair off the piece if it doesn't fit exactly. Order extra filet.

Of course the other choice is to have your supplier chop the fillet too. That's the easiest.

Ditto the fillet cutter from Frame Square. I like it very much, and also use it for cutting rabbet space.

I have a fillet chopper from ArtMac. It has worked GREAT. But, I don't believe it is still available? :(

However, I have started using my AMP sander to "fine tune" fillets. The chopper doesn't need to be as accurate. In fact, you can probably get by with a hand one if you have a sander. It's quite easy to zero in and get the miter true with the sander.
