A customer and his wife came in to pick up an order. I was telling them all about the Wizard CMC 8500e i will be getting in at the end of this Nevember. To give them a better idea of cutouts i showed opened the "DEMO" i received from Wizard and showed them part of a large selection they will have when choosing corner designs, cutouts, fonts, etc., etc.,. They were both amazed at what i showed them and are anxious to be examples of cut mats. I told them i will contact them when the equipment is completely set up and ready to go. Before they left the wife had one last question: "After i select the cutouts and openings does it only do the cutouts with those colors (she points to the software program which displays light blue top mat and darker blue bottom mat) or can i choose any color i want?" Her husband is standing behind her... looks at me, shakes his head from left to right, and tells me "Good luck with the ladies. You might have a lot of explaining to do with a few customers if you show them what you just showed her." He was laughing and left and his wife followed him. (I think i'm going to print out the manual and let customers choose from there.... what is this world coming to? ) lol

Palmetto, I get that alot. Drives me bonkers. I think I should start saying "Yes".

Reminds me of the young woman whose mother had sent in for a ready-made mat to fit her 16x20 frame. Brought it to the counter and said "I don't want to get in trouble for bringing back the wrong thig, but the label on this mat says 20x16, that won't fit will it?"

When I was convinced she was serious, I said "It will, if you turn it like this" (a quarter turn). She says "Are you sure?? That looks crooked to me!"

I assured her she wouldn't get in trouble. She never came back with it, so I assume her mother was assured as well.

And no, it wasn't a bottom-weighted mat, but one with equal margins.

Sheesh.

But Val maybe you got her confused, did you turn the mat or the frame

Don't you all realize that that is why we framers make the Big Bucks? ...we understand these things.

:icon9:

Come on guys and gals, it really wasn't the young girls fault. Cleary the mat should have been labeled "16"x 20" or 20" x 16", how can we expect people to know these things all on their own.
Just like a "Jay Walking" segment.

Everything needs disclaimer labels these days. For instance, I'm sure you have all read about the label in costumes, such as :

  • Superman "Wearing this cape, does not allow the wearer to fly".
  • Spiderman: This costume does not allow the wearer to climb vertical surfaces"

The customer may have known about bottom weighting, and wanted to be sure the picture wouldn't end up with an extra 1/4" on one side. Or on second thought maybe the customer just had no clue. :)

It was definately the latter. She had to ask what a mat was before she brought it to the counter. She was just running an errand.:D
