Hi everyone,
I have a wizard 8500e that I bought about a month ago...can someone fill me in on how to keep the mats from slipping all around when I am trying to cut. I have a thick board on the cutter and a sheet of 40x60 matboard. When I place my mat on...i dont see anyother way to hold things in place. I have tried building it up some more for a tighter grip and also just holding it. I am sure I am missing something quite simple here...

thanks in advance.

From the sound if it the clamps are not engaging when you cut. There should be no reason for you to hold the mat, tape it or otherwise try to hold it in place.

Call Wizard tech support at 888-855-3335. They should be able to diagnose the problem easily and ship out whatever replacement parts you might need.

You should have 2 mat thickness slip sheet for a regular 4ply mat (remove one for 8ply). Then your cut mats should slide just snugly enough into the edge clamps for proper grip. If that doesn't work, you need to verify that air pressure with no leaks is available to the clamps.

My clamps loosened up over time. All I had to do was tighten the screws.

I felt really silly when I called tech support about it. :icon19:

Do all the above..

Did you buy this from Wizard or is it second hand? Was it working before you bought it?

If you set it up maybe you forgot to connect the vacum lines to the clamps.

Are your clamps engaging? On the 8500e you will hear a distint BAM sound. G0D I loved that cutter...... If your clamps are not working contact Wizard Tech Support.

Next do You have a sheet of 1/4" Black Plastic material on the cutting surface 40x60. If you do not you are missing it. I forget the name of this palstic but if you call tech supprt they can tell you and you can probably buy it locally At a plastic supplier.

On top of the black Plastic sheet you should use a regular sheet of mat board as a slip sheet.

Good luck let us know how you fair....

It would also be Courteous to fill in your profil so we we know what city/state you are in or near.

8500e

I bought this wizard second hand from a gallery up north. I was so excited to get my hands on it. I do have the black board on the back and one sheet of reg 40x60 matboard as well...after looking closer at it today, I see that the black board is pushed in behind the clamps. I think this is my issue...going to tackle tweaking things this morning and report back later.
Thanks for all your help grumblers. :)

I think we have lift off!

I think I have the issue under control. I have removed the boards, tightened a few screws, and tried again. All is cutting smooth as butter now. Thanks for all your help!
