On all normal frames when I'm using wire I conform to FACTS guidelines ... but I'm wondering what the correct treatment is when you have a tall skinny frame ... 1/3rd of the way down seems inappropriate let's say if you have an 8" wide x 36" tall frame.

Perhaps the answer is as long as a 60° wire angle can be achieved the distance down is unimportant. But there again perhaps there should be a formula predicated on the ratio of width to height?

Usually I avoid the issue by using a WallBuddies on this type of frame but I'd still like to establish a shop policy for situations when a wire is required on a tall skinny frame!

Your thoughts?

Thought 1: Angle of departure more important than distance down side rail. Would think anything greater than 1/3 a no-no.
Thought 2: Client will put nail in wall after having lost hook part (are going to ignore 2 hook advise) and cut wire & re-tie to shorten so nail doesn't show above frame.
Thought 3: Voice in head sound like "The Claw" from "Get Smart" (Not Claw...Claw!)
