Well, it works!

Took me a couple of hours after all wiring was done.
RTFM for sure. They've got a couple of gottchas in there.

It claims to work to 30 ft, but I couldn't get it over about 15 or so. Keep the hub away from lights. Seems to effect it.

I have been playing with FrameVue from Lifesaver. Will try IF as soon as I get a chance.

Cool... care to share what the gotchas were?

Wellll ...,

First, there is a "protocol" for connecting between the dongle and the hub. You have to set the "hub ID" on the properties page of the dongle. (This is so you can switch between hubs with the same dongle apparently.)

Well ...., this Know-it-all mounted everything to the ceiling and got the wiring and everything setup before installing the software. GUESS where the ID is? Yep, printed on the bottom of the hub! and NOWHERE in the manual (I had a Belkin BTW)! Had do dismount everything and read the bottom of the #### hub. LOTS of ceiling panel dust on the head AGAIN!

Then, the OS doesn't have a clue what to do with this thing. I let it try to install stuff the way you normally do and I it couldn't, so I installed straight from the disk. Apparently it was in some unrecoverable state! After a LONNNG time putzin with it, I disconnected and uninstalled everything. Then started again By-the-manual and installed from the disk and plugged/powered each item in the order they say. Worked fine.

You can't jump the gun on this. Apparently, anything out of order gets it confused.

The last thing was the line-of-sight and distance issues. I am still unclear whether it was proximity to the track lights, or actual distance that caused problems, but it's working and I ain't experimenting anymore right now.

I think there was a couple of other things, but this gives you the basic idea.

Well, installed IF. In demo mode it apparently won't take a picture.

THe camera zooms and is controlled fine and I hear it take the picture, but the software won't transfer it over.

I think it will work. Seems like it almost is.

Guess I'll just keep using FV for a while. It gives me 30 days completely live.

Yeah, in demo it will control the camare and allow you to take a picture (hence the sound of the camera working) but it won't actually bring in the picture to use (sorry). Our demo is slightly crippled but unlimited in time.

However, if you'd like a "real" trial you (or anyone for that matter) can call up and get a 30-day trial key for IF.. :)

wireless hub

Hey Cliff I hung one up by the 'handle' on my ceiling plugged it in ...and it works with FrameVue on Canon S1 Si camera. I am sure it would work with any of the Vis programs.
It is the silver thing with jumbled up wires and a white wire attached to it. It is between 2 lights at the moment and around 10 feet away or so from the computer. Thanks for your tips. Very crude installation for the moment we will make it neater later...

Yes Judy, it really is simple and works if you just follow the instructions and don't try to "male" it and guess. ;)
