I am a bit confused over user rights & installing software on Windows (XP Pro if there is a difference) . Can someone help or at least steer me to a good article

ie If I want to install a program so that only 1 user can use it, do I install it logged in as that user? Where do i put the editable files - seems I tried that & because I wasn't an admin it didn't let me.

what if I want it to be used by all, do I install it logged in as administartor - where do the editable files go in this case

why is there an allusers directory & an admin directory & one for each user in the documents directory of C

seems to me the only safe way in "stewpid" windows is to logg on as admin - there seems to be little advantage in ever logging on as anything but admin unless you are playing a microsoft game

The simple answer to this question is that it depends if the application decides to support a multi-user scenario. Many don't, but most apps from large software corps follow the standard Windows conventions. Most often though is that an app is installed for everyone, but usually just the shortcuts and probably licensing and registration is setup for just one.

This is part of what is causing headaches for people with Vista. MS decided to enforce a stricter multi-user model, and all the apps that were lazy about this before are now having problems.
