Have you ever done this? I'm currently doing one for a customer. I was originally thinking of using a thin walnut moulding as the vert/horiz rails but realized I would have to fill in the rabbet. I have considered staining appropriate sized wood strips. Any experience with this? We are framing a needlepoint scene of nature, birds, etc.

There a couple of manufacturers (Decor comes to mind) that make a double-rabbet thing, about the size of a big filet, for splitting an opening, say, for a mirror and a print in the same frame ... that works well, after some careful mitering, for what you're doing.

That wasn't so hard afterall. After posting that message I went to my local mill and found exactly what I needed. Stained it, cut all four rails to an arrow, '>' like point and joined all four peices together. Looks great.

Thanx for your input!
