I purchased NetGear N300 a few weeks ago to use with my HP laptop. My laptop is mainly for personal use only, however, i use it as a backup if i have problems with my desktop computer. One night, after i closed, my wife was using the desktop computer to search for different vacation sites. I (for the first time) brought my laptop in my living room to browse the internet. NO WiFi connection. The distance from my NetGear N300 to my family room is only about 50 feet, BUT, the problem is i have two brick walls between the two. When i purchased the NetGear N300 at BestBuy, i was told if the distance between the two points was no more than 75 feet, the brick walls should be no problem. HE WAS WRONG. The brick walls ARE the problem. I went to BestBuy and told them the problem. They said i should get the NetGear N600 or a "Repeater" (the Repeater is almost as much as the N600), BUT, they said you never know which one would work unless I install it. I do not want to got through this again, UNLESS i know for sure which one i should buy. Any suggestions? Different manufacturer? Thanks.

I picked up this unit which has an incredible range and the reconditioned unit works perfectly. It also lets you set a password for visitors.

When I read all of the reviews it turns out most of the reconditioned units are simply returns by people who didn't follow the simple setup instructions. Less than $30 how can you go wrong since they are factory tested before being resold.

If the N-300 wouldn't go through 2 brick walls, then there is the chance that whatever you get will have a similar issue.

We have a netgear wndr3400 which has no problem with 150 ft between 2 buildings and trees. One computer sits behind a steel doubledoor. 2 others are using USB wifi connections. The biggest problem is the 8 blue antenna lights that can't be turned off.

Like Jeff said $30 is cheap.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get a 600mw wireless router from Costco for the extra power.

I had read reviews from others who had problems with brick walls and said this one did the trick.
