Hey everyone.
I have a client looking for a 6-8 inch wide silver tone moulding for a custom mirror. Ive framed other pictures for her using the Nurre Caxton 76182 and she likes that finish. Anyone know of a company who would have a moulding that wide? Thanks!

Your best bet is to stack a couple or few of the same finish mouldings. Not many companies making anything that wide other than closed corner manufacturers and those would mostly be stacked in that width even if the finish was applied after construction.

I was going to contact my handmade frame guy and see what he says... I just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing out on a company out there... thanks for the quick reply!

I think if I were a manufacturer and wanted to market a moulding 8" wide, I wouldn't make it all in one lump. Too much waste and if it decided to twist if would be quite tragic.

A lot easier to make in sections so they could be cut and stacked.

And, even if you could find a moulding 6-8 inches wide, could you cut it with your saw/chopper? Would it be a good quality cut?

I can cut up to 7" accurately on my Brevetti, but the widest frame I have ever cut was about 5.5".

I am in agreement that stacked framing is the way to go both from an ease of access and an engineering aspect. Fosters Planing Mills makes all the component parts for assembling your own classic profile, or you can go to the folks that do this for a living and have a closed corner frame built.

many thanks

Many thanks to everyone for the quick response. Ill keep you posted on the outcome of this "giant" mirror!

OMG you have to check out what Roma has now. They have some mouldings that would make your 6-8" request look like a metal poster frame by comparison. They also have many in this size too. But if you need a foot wide moulding, you now have a source. The pricing also seemed fair to me, not cheap, but fair.
